Important Places To See In Ooty - The Queen Of Hills (Part 1)

Hey guys! Welcome to my blog. Today am going to share some important places in Ooty that everyone must visit.

     Ooty which is popularly known as “ The Queen of Hills”, is a place that is surrounded by natural beauty. Ooty, which is also called Udhagamandalam, is the Head office of the Nilgiri district.

    The Nilgiri district is surrounded by dense groves, waterfalls, lakes, tea estates, vegetable lands, different plants, animals, N number of traditional places, an unpolluted environment, mountains covered by fog, cloudy sky, etc.,

     Since the mountain is covered by blue flowers, this place got the name Nilgiri. The Kurinji flower blossoms only once a year in Nilgiri. At that time, the mountains are fully covered by this flower and looks like blue mountains. 

OOTY LAKE:  This lake was formed in 1842 and is an artificial lake. This is a famous hang-out place for the tourists who come to Ooty. Boating is available here.

ROSE GARDEN: This garden is maintained by the Tamilnadu Horticulture Department. Approximately, we can see 1,919 types of roses in this garden. 

DODDABETTA PEAK: This peak is located at a height of 2,623 m. This is just 10 km far from Ooty. The mountains and the places around this peak are eye-catching views for tourists. 

MUDUMALAI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY: This sanctuary is located on the east side of the Nilgiri mountains. It is one of the best wildlife sanctuaries in India.

EMERALD LAKE: Emerald lake is situated in a silent valley. This place is favorable for tourism and also fishing. This lake is surrounded by tea estates and tea factories.

KAMARAJ SAGAR LAKE: The Kamaraj lake is in a suburban area. Since this place is covered with shrubs and medicinal plants, this lake is considered an important place for movie shootings. 

SAINT STEPHEN CHURCH: This is one of the oldest churches in Nilgiri. This church was built in 1892. Here, there are some religion-based photographs and paintings done in glass, which attracts the tourists who come here.

BOTANICAL GARDEN: This Botanical Garden, is maintained by Tamilnadu Horticulture Department since 1848. This garden has many varieties of flowers, plants, etc.,

THREAD GARDEN: This garden is filled with beautiful artificial flowers. This is also a place that must be visited.

KALAKTTI WATERFALLS: This is located at a 20 km distance from Pykara. It takes around one hour to reach this wonderful place.

DOLPHIN NOSE: Dolphins nose is situated at a distance of 10 km from Coonoor. Since the top of the mountain looks like the nose of a dolphin, it is called as dolphin nose.

PYKARA LAKE: This lake is located 30 km from the Mudumalai National Park. This lake is the best example of nature's extraordinary beauty.
