True Beauty is a South Korean television series staring Moon Ga-young, Cha Eun-woo, Hwang In-youp, and Park Yoo-na , released on December 9, 2020 - February 4, 2021.
18-year old high school student Lim Ju-kyung, who has inferiority complex about her appearance, has been constantly discriminated by her family and bullied at her school for her ugly looks. Unable to bear the hatred she runs to the topmost floor of a building where she meets the lead role Lee Su-ho who pulls her back .
Later on she gets transferred to a different school. She transforms herself with newly acquired skill of applying makeup and goes to school as a goddess. She quickly rises to fame and makes friends. Lee Su-ho happens to be her classmate too but she's unable to recognize him as the guy who saved her as she had lost her spectacles and couldn't really see her savior's face clearly. The constant fear of being discovered with her bare face haunts her. Afterwards she goes to Prince Comic store( she has been a constant visitor there from a young age, she lost contact of the store when they transferred.) where she collides with the lead role again. Unfortunately she had gone there bare faced. They talk , reads comic and runs back to her home. Days pass by and she develop feeling for Lee Su-ho . Lee on the other hand recognized her, protected her from being exposed and developed feelings for her. Having been dealt with a bad past , which ruined his friendship with Han Seo-joon, he feared to make a move. Yet they find their way back together . Somewhere between the story Han Seo-joon also develops feelings for her. He never made a move because he knew Lee had feelings for her. The story proceeds smoothly until one day her real identity gets revealed at school. She gets bullied again for her looks and for dating Lee. She hides in her room for a couple of days. Lee tried to see her but she was so devastated to even meet him. Later they meet at the comic store where he consoles her and tells her to face the issue with confidence rather than running away. Her family also discovers what she had to go through. The next day she goes to school with her bare face ready to face all the circumstances with confidence. After school , she enters into a makeup field and follows her passion as a makeup artist.
The main reason why I loved this series was because I could closely relate it with the present scenario. Honestly we all are chasing behind this fake identity created in our minds by the society. Its time we discover ourselves and learn to love ourselves just the way we are. Live an imperfect YOU rather than a perfect copy of someone else.
Hoping you all would give this series a try and do tell me your suggestions in the comment box
STAY HAPPY.
