Hey everyone, i am back with my another blog. i hope you are in great health and having a blast of a day.

As i was writing about Navratri, i wrote about which goddess is worshipped on the each day of navratri and what is the meaning of their name and about their story, origin and what their purposes. So here i go with my next story about the sixth day of navratri. As today is the sixth navratri and Maa katyayani is worshipped on the sixth day of navratri. she is the most worshipped form of Maa Durga and she is considered as the destroyer of the evil. She has four hands and she weilds a long sword and a lotus in two of her hands. she blesses her devotees with the third hand and protect with the fourth one.

According to the history or saints it was well known that there was a sage known as kat and who has a son named Katya. Later a sage named katyayan took birth as his descendants. Sage katyayan has no offspring. he observed a penance and worshipped the gods for child.

Meanwhile, Mahisasur the demon was causing a lot of trouble for the gods. his opressions were increasing day by day. All the gods approached vishnu to sought out this problem. They wanted mahisasur to be finished.

Then shiva and bhrma also joined them. At Vishnu's behest this trinity, Vishnu, shiva and bhrma emitted flames which took the form of Katyayani.

Maa katyayani is one of the fiercest form of Maa Durga. She is also known as Mahisasurmardini, the killer of Mahisasur. she was able to defeat and kill the demon Mahishasur. when katyayani and Mahishasur came face to face, he took the form of a buffalo, this become a great challenge for Katyayani.

However, Katyayani tricked Mahishasur and climbed onto his back. this move was so shocking for Mahishasur, he failed to protect himself from this move. then Maa katyayani put her feet on his neck and cut off his head with her trishool.

This is how Maa katyayani killed the evil and demon Mahishasur. so she saved the gods from this penance and brought peace back into this world. In many parts of the world, the unmarried girls often observe fast and pray to Maa katyayani in order to get loving and caring husband.

It was believed that she protects her devotees from evils and blesses them with happiness and joy.
