Dark Chocolates are rich in coco which are excellent source of flavonoids which acts as antioxidants. Studies say that the dar  chocolate which contains more than 65% of coco beans can reduce pain and cramps  during the periods without gaining calories. 

Dark chocolates  are rich source of iron which helps in increasing  the hemoglobin levels thus reducing  the fatigue caused in menstrual days.

Dark chocolates are high in magnesium  which helps to reduce sore muscles, back pain, abdominal pain etc caused due to menstrual cycle.

Potassium in dark chocolate can relieves cramp i.e, it  stops muscles from retaining water and feeling bloated.

It also helps to reduce cortison levels which is the stress hormone and boosts mood by increasing serotonin and endorphin levels in the brain which are happy hormones. 

It contains caffeine and stimulates such a theobromine and tryptophan which helps to boost mood and feels energized during those days.

Sweetness of dark chocolate can reduce facial issues like acne, skin bumps etc that accompany the menstrual cycle.

Dark chocolates also contains  copper which produces chemicals which helps to ease the pain and cramps during menstrual cycle. 

These also contains  micro nutrients such as vitamin B1, D, E and K, zinc, and boron which also helps to relieve pain and cramps during periods. 

This also has anti inflammatory properties which helps women to control PCOS and other period related issues.

Studies says that milk chocolates can also reduce cramps and pain not as effective as dark chocolates. These contains excess sugar and butter and has double calories which causes in  gaining weight and worsens bloating unlike dark chocolates. 

White chocolates elevates prostaglandin levels  which is the reason of increased pain and cramps. 

The best  dark chocolates for periods are:

  1. Dark chocolate with a touch of sea salt - These reduces stress and produce chemicals like endorphin which boosts the mood.
  2. Chilli dark chocolate - These are a good source  of antioxidants which reduces stress levels.
  3. Cranberry dark chocolate - Cranberries are rich in potassium and  vitamin C which is a delight during menstrual days.
  4. Dark chocolate with hazel nuts,  almonds and fig - They have fatty acids and are rich in minerals like iron and magnesium which prevents muscles from cramping,  reduces tiredness  and  relaxes muscles. 
  5. Belgian chocolate - This is for those who doesn't like bitter taste of dark chocolate. It tastes better than dark chocolate and has same effect as dark  chocolate.
