Fruits To Be Added In The Diet To Lower Cholesterol

Hola mi amigos!!! The ratio of people with increased blood cholesterol level is constantly peaking.. So what is this cholesterol and how do fruits helps to lower it..Cholesterol is a waxy substance found in the blood. It is required by the body in a specific amount of to support the healthy cell-making process. When the required amount exceeds, they starts to damage some of the important organs of the body, including the heart. Excessive build-up of cholesterol results in deposition of fat in the blood vessels, thereby blocking or hindering the blood flow process inside the arteries leading to heart attacks, heart blockage, stroke etc. Medicines and lifestyle changes are highly recommended in order to manage the rise in cholesterol. 

What are the symptoms of High Cholesterol Levels?

Signs of high cholesterol includes,

  1. Chest pain specifically on the left side of the chest
  2. Numbness
  3. Feeling heaviness
  4. Pressure or fullness
  5. Dizziness
  6. Nausea
  7. Difficulty in breathing or shortness of breath
  8. Extreme tiredness or fatigue
  9. Slurred speech
  10. Chest congestion
  11. Blood pressure spike
  12. Unsteady gait

Since our is ‘what we eat’,diet plays a pivotal role in the management of blood cholesterol levels. Below mentioned are some of the fruits which aids in reducing blood cholesterol levels.

Apples

As learned in kinder garden, A for Apple, it comes first when talking cholesterol lowering fruits.. Pectin fibre and several other essential antioxidants polyphenols in apples, effectively reduces the levels of unhealthy LDL cholesterol( also known as low density lipoprotein) and also slows down oxidation. This also helps in preventing hardening arteries thus protecting the heart from any kind of complications.

Avocados

It is highly recommended for lowering blood pressure, as it is a rich source of antioxidants like vitamin K, C, B5, B6, E and monosaturated fats. All these antioxidants help keep the heart healthy thus reducing the risk of stroke. They help in regulating LDL and HDL cholesterol levels, as well as blood triglycerides.

Vitamin-C Rich Fruits

Vitamin-C rich citrus fruits such as lemons, oranges help in managing high cholesterol levels. They are high in hesperidin which can reduce the symptoms of high blood pressure. They are also rich in pectin (fibre) and limonoid compounds which can slow the hardening of the arteries, and reduce LDL (bad cholesterol) in the blood. 

Tomatoes

Tomatoes are packed with a variety of vitamins including A, B, K and C. Containing a high level of potassium, tomatoes promotes heart health, lowers cholesterol, and blood pressure and prevent the risk of stroke.

Papaya

Papaya is rich in fibre, which helps in controlling blood pressure and regulate the levels of LDL (bad cholesterol).
