My Little Gold Eardrops

This is one of my prize winning story on the sacrifices that parents make for their children. A story of my good old days “when less was more”. 😊

My first gold was this beautiful pair of “gold eardrops”

That mom n dad had brought for me and my sister when we were hardly 11-12years old.

Today I understand that it would not have been easy for them. With an average earning job, mom and dad had too much to manage. Three children and each had some own things to have. Dad use to work 9 to 9 to keep us all comfortable. He always would make us all also pitch in a hand in his work and we remain rooted. We got something to eat of our choice , depending on all 3 agree on what🤘🏻.

With whatever parents had, they made it a point to make diwali special for us. Mom would load us on rickshaw (imagine 3 monkeys of mom sitting beside her) and take us to market to buy new clothes. We had no complaints, rather it was like I would buy new clothes. We had so much fun. Dad was particular about performing diwali pooja in new clothes. Hence, the must do rather memorable trip to market, for which we use to wait the whole year.

I vividly remember, mom dad once talking about buying us some gold on one of the Diwalis. Dad sounded worried, “ bhut expensive ho jaega ye affair. Kaise karenge”

“ Kar lenge, karna padega. We now have to think about adding jewellery, piece by piece for our 2 daughters. Time flies and they will be ready for marriage in no time.” Mom whispered in his ears.

“I understand that but we hardly have funds in the bank. Abhi to education Bhi baaki h and I am not compromising on that at any cost." Dad said in firm tone.

“Sab ho jaega, kuch bhari bharkam nahi kar payenge but dheere dheere chota mota. Let's buy them ”gold ear drops" to start with. I have some money with me. I'll pull it out. I have been saving it without your knowledge." Mom grinned.

“Achaa!!! tum bhut smart ho! How much of it is robbed from my wallet?” dad smiled and said.

Mom looked the other side and smiled “ nahin mere rakhi k paise hain.”

At that age, I really don't know how much do we understand of our parents struggles. Gifts excite us irrespective of how they have been arranged by them. Today's generation definately doesn't understand even a bit of it and we cannot blame them. Anyways, we girls were happy. Finally we girls were promised for gold earrings, and brother was promised for a new sports shoes.

It was around diwali and we were so excited. Yeppie!!! Shopping time. We entered the oldest n most famous jewellery shop. Many designs were presented infront of us. Mom calculated the budget n finally what fitted her budget were brought . I still remember how mom tugged the small batua in her purse and the entire way she kept checking the purse.

We wore those gold eardrops on diwali n went out to burst crackers. Mom nervously said"keep feeling your eardrops lest you drop them."

Today also when I wear them I keep feeling them lest i loose them. My most precious and my forever piece of jewellery from my parents, my little “gold eardrops”🥰🥰

Always close to my 💓
