Now days, we offer pray for the heavy painful. God in time has opened his eyes since he heard our sincere mass prayers. You can see good water flows in the Cauvery and the Kollidam. It is beneficial to us in many ways as required by us. Otherwise “Poor rains, poor gains".
Rivers supply ayer for drinking. They supply water for irrigation and help production of food grains. They make the soil fertile. A number of trees that grow by the side of rivers and forests are.useful for bringing us more rains. They are also used for communication through boats. Rivers are considered to be an asset to the nation.
In India, big rivers like the Ganges, the Brahmaputra, and the Sindu flow from the Himalayas. The Narmada and the Taptu pass through central India. The Godavari, The Kirishna, The Pennar and The Ga u very are in south India. Apart from these big rivers, there are a number of small rivers throughout the country. Due to frequent heavy rainfalls in the rainy season and st other times, more quantity of water is stored in these rivers apart from the earlier accumulation oof the water there and from the rivers irrigation is done to the fields through canals.
Some of the small rivers get dried during summer. Water flows only during rainy season. Heat on the earth is reduced. Good fertility of soil is noticed. Recently we have built up small tanks like in all our houses to save, preserve pure water. Hence, the rain fall does not become a waste. Every drop of water is saved like Money or diesel is saved. This rain water is not allowed to go and mingle with drainage water. Indirectly the water thus saved by us naturally stocked in our wells.
Further it is also helpful to us in our houses for fadenibg work, so thatt plants grow naturally well and then neat environment is maintained. Hence, we cab avail ourselves of free and pure air in our premises itself. Added to this, some small plants like thulasi, rise flowers, paaru Katha flowers, also grow besides coconut tress, etc… dEoending upon heavy continuous rain water plants like kanakambaram, kwriveppilai, grass too grow well. Because of these we save money by purchase of tthese things from outside our houses sine we are getting that here itself. They are free from pollution. Grass is good food for animals. Few vegetable items so grown well are used in our cooking section. Good fragrance is spread by flowers. We can offer to god at the time of ppooja and then we can make use of it. We can share these things with our neighbors too.
When the rain I'd heavy, there are floods causing loss if human life and property besides affecting production. The scheme of inter-linking or rivers to avoid such floods and to prevent drought in other areas s yet to be implemented by the government. This involves huge amount of expenditure but in the long run it is more advantageous to us.
Though we may not get water from the dry rivers during summer, there are sources of supplies of sand which are useful for construction of buildings.
There are dams across the big rivers to regulate the flow of water to facilitate optimum use of the water and reduce the quantity of water flowing into the sea. While people on the coastal side get fish from tthe sea, others depend on the rivers only getting fish.
After independence, government implemented various schemes for construction of dams and canals and regulate the supply of water for irrigation to benefit the maximum area. Increase of production of food grains has been possible only by proper utilization of river water.
