Hey folks! Hearty welcome to the second part of “Leveraging Holy Book Geeta."

In Previous section of this topic I've bestowed the wisdom of the holy book Geeta, regarding a severe personal issue of tackling the problem of depression and extracting out the learning from this scripture.

Second installment talks about the issue of an uncontrolled and reinless human mind.

Through the means of chapter-6 of Geeta, which is Sankhya yoga, I'd like to comprehend the words of Krishna in regards to the uncontrollable human mind.

Uncontrollable? Isn't it? or Is it controllable?

Sankhya Yoga is a branch of Indian philosophy, talking in terms of "sankhya" which means numbers. This branch specially says about duality of nature, i.e. Prakriti and Purush. Furthermore Prakriti is divided into three attributes, i.e. Sattva, Rajas and Tamas.

Chapter 6: Sankhya Yoga

Verse - 5

  • Purport: Human mind is capable of literally everything. What must do with it, is to elevate himself by utilising his mind, not degrading himself. Mind conditions your soul, like a good friend, who helps you become a better person. Your mind is your friend, when you're capable of conditioning your soul to be an elevated person, spirituality as well as materially. In contrast, to an unconditioned soul, his mind could be proven as a worst enemy. And It'll not even think twice before waging an internal war within you.

Verse - 6

  • Purport: Conditioning your soul for your betterment, is utilising your mind in any way possible. Thus it is like conquering it. Furthermore, the person who conquered his mind has almost conquered the entire world. In contrast, a person who is subdued by his own mind, and thus engaged in material means of happiness, is defeated by his own mind. You must choose whether you want your mind as a worst enemy or a dearest friend.

Verse - 26

  • Purport: It's the true nature of mind  to be unstable and to roam, flicker and explore the world. It is said in scriptures, that the most paceful thing in this world is a human mind. No vehicle could ever attain the pace of a mind. A mind could be travelling in the USA this instant, next moment it is in India. This is how the mind works, this is the true nature of the mind. Conditioning it to be more stable is the only way you can control it. It's the only way one must bring back his mind in reality, in the present moment.

Verse - 35

  • Purport: An uncontrolled, unconditioned flickering mind is your only immortal enemy who will never leave you alone. Eventually he'll die with you, and for sure, he'll organise your death one day. Similarly, a controlled mind, which is not under influence of any material attainments, is your bestest friend who's immortal too, and will be with you forever.
