What is a bad habit? A action repeated several times? A action that makes us sick?  There are other opinions too. We can read books or we can ask google. But the simple definition according to me that I have framed by reading books and doing google search , combining them and getting to conclusion.

Habit is that repeated action which gives our mind pleasure or pain, habits are the only one that decides our future.

This was the simple definition that I have framed now let us put one example in this so that we can check whether it is true or not.

 Suppose a person have smoking habit, he smokes daily (Repeated action) which makes him relaxed (Mind pleasure),now after five years he passed away(Future decided).

Suppose a person have exercising habit, he exercises daily (Repeated action)which makes him feel pain in his body(Pain), now after five years he have achieved five  awards in modelling(Future decided).

Hope you understood the meaning of habits, now habit can be of reading, working, sleeping late- waking up late, junk food, smoking, alcohol, and much more..

The habits which build us gives us immense pain at starting but with the passage of time this pain becomes the reward and happiness, on the other hand bad habits gives us immense pleasure at starting but can lead to serious pain.

A habit is good or bad is dependent upon it's end result , smoking will result in death and exercise will lead to award, good health and much more benefits. 

Good habits = Good habits are hard to formed but easy to live with. These are formed with enough discipline and dedication, self-control. The people who have these , my heartful congratulations to them and good luck for forming more, you all know what are good habits, - whose end result is good, which makes us feel worthy of the pain we suffered, which is in our favor. Example - Reading habit, Exercising habit, waking up early and others. 

Bad habits  = Bad habits are easy to form and hard to live with, often we regret on repetition of these habits, these habits don't require enough dedication or effort to be formed but opposite is true, it requires efforts and hardwork for leaving them/ break them. Example - Smoking, Stealing, Late night parties, Alcohol and much more.

How to bread Bad habits And make Good habits.

  1. Create environment = We are often seduced to repeat bad habit by our environment, if a smoker sees a smoking shop on the way then there are 90% chances that he will smoke, instead of this we can do one thing , we can create such a environment that we are forced to quit, Example - We can chew nicotex whenever we see a shop on the way or any where else, we can avoid bars and friend circle and we can paste photos/poster of quit smoking in our room , work place and other places where we spend time daily.
  2. Make it awful = We repeat bad habits because we get pleasure by repeating them over and over so do one thing, whenever you repeat a bad habit punish yourself, and let the punishment be hard.
  3. Create identity = Always say “I am a non smoker", instead of “I am trying to quit smoking”, it will have a greater effect , by doing this you created your own identity and it is a positive one. You can write this line daily in your diary or any paper.
  4. Reward yourself = Whenever you repeat a good habit or when you break your bad habit, reward yourself with any treat or something.

Remember here you need to win daily, there are many books on this topic but the one that i would recommend is - “Atomic habits” by James clear.
