Considering the pandemic situation where nearly 95% of the interviews happen only in virtual mode, Virtual Interviews are the new norms now and they are here to exist.
If you are one of the persons who is looking out for an opportunity actively, these general tips might be of help to you
Access to Stable Internet Connection: Of all the preparation we make for the interview this is of prime importance, ensure that you find a place where you will have access to stable internet connectivity.
Check Audio & Video Features: Since most of the interviews are now happening in Video Mode only. Do a basic check on your system for the Video and Audio Features. If not try troubleshooting and have them ready.
Proper Headset: Try to attend the interviews with a good headset. Nowadays we get good products starting from Rs. 400 itself. Do not attend over the speaker mode since there is a possibility that your voice might go in and out for the interviewer. It's important that we provide a good experience to the interviewers.
Sit in a Comfortable Chair or Place: An interview session averages around 30-40 minutes, so it's important that you make yourself comfortable to have a good conversation with the interviewer. I recently met a candidate who was sitting in a rolling chair and kept moving from left to right constantly, my eyes are kept busy and not my ears :). Please note that this will annoy the interviewer.
Undisturbed Attention: This might sound a bit silly but I am sure some of us would have faced a situation where we would be attending an interview with all seriousness and the family members walk around casually in front of us or the camera :) This will create an unnecessary distraction for both, so the better way to handle this is to inform the people prior to not disturb you for the next 30 - 40 mins.
Avoid Noisy Background: In one of my recent interviews, I have to try to filter out the Candidate Voice from the background sound, and I had a very tough time resisting the background sound because they were playing some of my favorite music behind :-), so ensure that your voice is the only sound that the interviewer hears.
Attire still matters: Of course, it's a virtual interview and the interviewer couldn't see you in full. But wearing professional attire would definitely help you in giving a good first impression to the interviewer
