Hi guys, Welcome to my blog. Today I want to write about the historical monuments of Vijayanagara Empire. These are situated in Hampi which is considered as an ancient village of Karnataka. It is 25 min travel from Hosapete to Hampi. You can enjoy the scenery of temples along the side of River Tungabhadra. The most famous places in Hampi are :
It is the must-visit place in Hampi. Taking about its history it was built during Krishna devaraya rule in 15th century and it is six centuries old. The temple is famous for its unique architecture attracting many tourists across the world. If we tap the pillars of Vittala mandap it will produce the sounds of saregamapa which is interesting to hear. Historical records said that this temple was dedicated to Vishnu who was in Vittala form. Overall, The architecture talks about how talented and skillful the architects are at that time.
Virupaksha temple was built during the reign of Devaraya-II of the Vijayanagara empire. The God enshrined in this temple is Lord Shiva as Lord Virupaksha along with his Consort. Previously, the temple was small around 7th century but it occupied a large space as time passed by and you will find well-carved sculptures, and interiors inside the temple and premises. Most of the temple got ruined but they are reconstructing it. Still, Pujas and festivals are ongoing in this temple. In December, Marriage ceremony between Virupaksha and Pampa Devi is celebrated, whereas in the month of February Annual Chariot festival is organized by the locals.
I don't know the real story behind this but it is good for sightseeing. You will find these when you are travelling on the road to Hampi. There is a rumor that two sisters became stones due to some curse.
Someone told me that the right hand of the statue and maa Laxmi who was sitting on Narasimha Swamy lap was destroyed because invaders thought that there were gems and diamonds in the statue.
It is one of the best temples in Hampi. You will find the Shivling which is 3 meters high and carved with black stone surrounded with water, and you will notice direct sun rays on the Shivling since its ceiling is opened. The water below was somewhat deep.
Some more places you can visit with your family and friends around Hampi are Sri Rama Swamy temple which is built on single granite stone, Lotus Mahal, Watch Tower,Queen's bath, and elephant stable.
