What is microblogging? 

  • Microblogging refers to the act of making short-form blog posts for quick updates and sharing important content for interaction with the audience. 
  • The term ‘microblogging’ was invented by Kevin Marks, the co-founder of Twitter at a conference in 2007. It is very popular these days.
  • Microblogging is a self-content-based short type of blog where the post made in the social media handler has been termed as microblog also known as micro-post.
Common Microblogging sites
  •  Microblogging platform sites include social media networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr, Pinterest, Instagram, Quora, Reddit, LinkedIn, etc. 
  •  In traditional blogging, long posts are written and created while in microblogging the content is mentioned in short sentences.
  • The posts in microblogs include photos, audio, links, text, and videos.
  • It is a mixture of both instant texting and blogging along with multimedia content.
  • Microblogging can be done on a desktop or mainly using a mobile device. It is easy, and fast to blog, and no special skills are necessary for it. 
  • It does not have issues concerning security, privacy, and integration.
  •  Live blogging is another form of microblogging that shows a continuous feed on particular web pages, For example, covering live events or conferences. 
  • There are mainly four types of microblogging such as:
  1.  Tweeting (Twitter) 
  2. Text-based (Medium, Tumblr)
  3. Image-based(Instagram and Pinterest)
  4. Micro-vlogging(Facebook ‘My Day’, Instagram ‘stories’, TikTok, Youtube's ‘shorts’)

The benefits of microblogging are it takes less time, reduces efforts, is mobile-friendly, promotes authorship, it could be automated, you remain associated with customers, more manageable to share information, etc. Most of the common kinds of microblogs are news updates, memes, quotes, infographics in a concise way, highlights of the event, animated files, and entertaining content. It is a type of content marketing.

How to write the first  microblog can be written step by step as follows:

  1. Choose your platform to start microblogging based on requirements and practices.
  2. Selecting types of content depend on making content promotional, entertaining, or informational.
  3. Using an automation tool for sharing information, creating different content, and editing multiple posts in an editor.
  4. Following social media influencers and getting engaged in increasing value content to make more followers for promoting business. To provide links for followers to read, and know more about your product, company, services, etc. 

Examples of Microblogging  

 Tweets in Twitter  

Twitter is one of the oldest and most popular social media-based microblogging sites platforms. It is the quickest form of sharing short posts, GIFs, images, article links, and retweeting different tweeted posts. This type of microblogging is called tweeting which is only done on Twitter. One can text up to 280 characters and short posts and updates. Approximately 206 million monetizable users have their accounts on Twitter.

Instagram posts

Instagram is one of the popular social media networking platform sites used for microblogging. On Instagram microblogging is done to share tips, product branding, connect with customers(interested audience), teach tutorials, showcase talents, one-share trending videos, and even photographic skills, hobbies, and creativity. Reels and IGTV are famous micro-vlogging and image, layouts are image-based types of microblogging on Instagram. Links, videos, and images are shared along with ‘#’ hashtags, and captions on each post for increasing and tagging for collaboration and promotions of the posts. The limit of writing caption below the image is 2200 long characters in Instagram posts. 

Social media sites and apps like Pinterest also need design and video editing tools and affiliate marketing to promote their business. 

Conclusion & bottom line

Microblogging is getting its influence in blogging, and social media content marketing. It is a type of business promotion one does to sell or attract, or introduce the product to the audience. Using, microblogging not only customers builds trust in them and creates public relations effectively. Microblogging has different categories, and its use is endless.
