Overcoming challenges makes life meaningful.
A meaningful life, the meaning depends on the opinion that differs from person to person based on their values, priority, aspirations, and desires as it is subjective.
When the history of humanization started, we can say that we are creatures that seek meaning, yearn for meaning, and make meaning.
When we meet different people, like a mother, person going for a job, drug-dealer, doctor, etc., they have their own opinion of a meaningful life.
If we elaborate on it, then we find psychologically, people describe a meaningful life as having relationships and bonds to others, doing something worthwhile to do in their time, chit-chat with others so they can realize the world that they are living in, making memories of happiness and sadness.
In short, we can say that they mean, belonging, purpose, knowledge, transcendence.
Some will lean on particular pillars to find the meaning of life.
Belonging:
When we bond or have relationships, we sense a wave of belonging through mutual care. When you reject or ignore someone, then they sense their life is meaningless and waste to society. When you value some lives, then their life is excited and happy. In a long run, we feel we belong in this world based on the thinking of our bond or relationship. This often includes self-knowledge, values, beliefs, fulfillment, morality, creativity, passions, problem-solving, lack of prejudice, acceptance of facts, and variety.
Purpose:
How you find your purpose? It begins with identifying your strengths. Then, after identifying it, you will look for ways to use it by serving and benefitting others in it. So, when you have a sense of purpose, it gives you strong willpower.
But note that purpose comes in all shapes and all sizes. Purpose differs from person to person, like one person’s purpose will be to eliminate poverty, while another person’s purpose will be to be a good parent.
Knowledge:
Knowledge can be an act of taking our experiences and craft them to understand and learn other things. In course of time, you will develop wisdom and the ability to gain a sense of control, authenticity, and uniqueness. This will put who you will become in the hands of yourself and not in hands of external influences. Also, it will help you understand others.
Transcendence:
When we experience a meaningful life, we would have experienced moments of awe, self-loss, specific moments that make us feel alive. They give us a sense of fulfillment and pleasure. These experiences feel connected to something bigger. Many people often chase this feeling through different hobbies, actions, experiences, without knowing the true, underlying desire.
Almost all people rely on finding meaning in life through belonging.
When you are on the deathbed, it will be a great comfort to know that you will leave a meaningful legacy behind. So, start crafting your lives that matters.
