Story 1
The story of the elephant and the ropeπ
A man was walking through an elephant enclosure. He realized that the elephants were not caged or chained there. From there they are only tied to one leg with a small rope to prevent them from going out. He wondered why the elephants didn't even try to break the short rope. They could easily do that. But they didn't.
He had to know what was causing it. He asked a nearby trainer why the elephants were standing there without even making an attempt to escape.
The coach replied;
"The elephant has been tied with the same size rope since it was a baby. It was enough to overwhelm them at that age. Even when they grow up, they think that they are not capable of breaking the rope. That's why they don't try to break it.
The elephant did not try to escape by breaking the rope only because the belief that he could not do it was fixed in his mind for a long time.
If limiting beliefs are not changed they can become a self-fulfilling prophecy. We may not be able to break free from the shackles of self-imposed limitations
Story 2
The story of a Farmer and the horseπ
Once a farmer's horse ran away. That evening all the neighbors came and started lamenting the incident. ' They are also sad that the horse has run away. What a misfortune this is,' said the farmer; 'may be'
But the next day the horse returned with seven other wild horses. Even then people added, 'How things have changed, now you have eight horses. What a fortune this is,' said the farmer still; 'may be'.
The next day, while riding a wild horse, the farmer's son fell and broke his leg. Then the neighbors said; 'It's too bad'. Then the farmer only responded 'maybe'.
The next day army officers arrived there to take the youths for conscription. They did not take the farmer's son because he had a broken leg. Again the neighbors all gathered around and commented, 'That's very good.' Still the farmer said; It is only 'may be'.
All events and situations in our life are neutral. Don't approach them with preconceived notions of good and bad. We assign the meaning of good or bad to each according to our perspective.
