Day-2 Of Internship And What I Learned

Day 2 of my internship would be on the 14th of October and as I have been busy lately I missed blogging. So this would be a continuation of the days.

The very second day of my internship I met even more people especially patients that  we have. This very day I attended a lecture or rather session by a co-ordinator who has worked in the field of de-addiction for the past 23 years. He started his lecture using the likert scale to let the inmates open up about they're feelings and understanding of how far they are int heir recovery journey. Likert scale is where you rate anything or something on a scale of 0-10 or may be more, depends on choice. This very activity enabled them to believe that either they are very negative about their situation or else they are not able to answer in a positive way. A very common question addicted people or people in recovery face is “have you stopped drinking yet?”. To answer this question, one thing that they can do is be positive about it.

There are a lot of situations where addiction recovery people go through after recovery which make them get back to consumption such as

  1. Peer pressure
  2. Urge to drink
  3. Festivals or functions
  4. Verbal disputes
  5. Sadness or death
  6. Wrong places such as beer bar, wine shops.
  7. Unnecessary fear or happiness
  8. Loneliness or insecurity

These are many reasons that can provoke a recovered person to relapse so he gave a three way formula to say no which includes.

  1. Be calm and say no
  2. Say no from bottom of your heart
  3. Raise your tone and be clear about your decision

He made them believe in that moment that they are in the right place and they are in a the direction of help for themselves as well as their family.

Denial is athe first and regularly used defence mechanism by addicts. Here building self-respect is important to make them accept their situation and then work towards it. Because of alcohol behaviour is to be changed and that has to be realised by the addict, his family and also the people arround them.

Ways that they can avoid such risky situations is by

  1. Build the skill to say no
  2. Ask for help
  3. Try to avoid for a year
  4. Control emotions
  5. Manage negative emotions
  6. Be in a safe place- house, rehab center, temples.
  7. Be a part of your family
  8. Participate in people who want to help you build, help each other.

These were the important point I learned which will definitely help an addict but can also be helpful for us in our day to day life to help us stay away from stress.

Thankyou 🌼
