Loki is the God of Mischief in the world of Norse Mythology. Today, we will bee seeing a jealous side of him towards the most beloved god, Balder.

Balder was the son of Odin and Frigg, the supreme gods of Asgard. He was loved by all because of his charismatic and kind nature. He spread happiness wherever he went. But as night arrived, his happiness would change as he slept. His dreams were filled with nightmares. His wife, Nana  comforted him as he woke frightened. No one could understand the meaning of his nightmares. Odin knew that in hell, the place where the souls of dead who didnt die an honorable death on the battlefield, went, there was an Oracle who was considered capable of deciphering those nightmares. So as disguised, Odin went to the realm of the dead. The oracle prophesied that hellheim is ready for balder, as the sadness takes over Asgard, the realm of hell will only be filled with joy with balder's arrival.

After knowing this, Frigg was determined to save her beloved son from hellheim. She demanded everyone to never hurt balder. Loki, the god of trickery was jealous of balder, but even he was compelled to take this oath. By doing so, Balder became invulnerable to everything. This invulnerability was a joke among gods, they threw stones at balder but everything was deflected. Thor hit him with his powerful hammer, but nothing happened to balder. Everyone in Asgard was happy to know that Balder was protected, except Loki.

One day, he overheard a conversation from the goddess Frigg who told a friend that she had managed to get everyone to take that oath. Everyone was compelled except Mistletoe, a harmless plant. So loki's evil mind saw this plant as not so harmless after all. He collected all the mistletoe. Every god was having fun trying to harm Balder except the blind god Höd as he couldnt throw anything at Balder. So Loki made a dart of mistletoe and addressed Höd , telling him that he should not let his blindness stop him for having fun. Balder was happy that Höd was involved finally. With all his strength, Höd threw the dart at Balder expecting to hear the laughter of the gods. But a great silence fell over the place. Balder was suddenly wounded. As he fell to the ground, the other gods mourned his death.

And as prophesied, the world of the living was plagued  by sadness after Balder's death
