Lately, I was wondering that how would it have been if some things in society would have been taboo. Like-
Slut-shaming women in crop tops/jeans/practically everything- Don’t you think that the world would have been a better place to live in if women were not judged based on their clothing, on the way they dress, they speak, they laugh, they carry themselves and whatnot. Because now women are blamed for being raped because of the clothes they wear. I have seriously witnessed several incidents and cases myself wherein people are bluntly and shamelessly commenting on the girls being raped because of the types of clothes they wear. They are held responsible for their clothes and in a very subtle way also comment on their mentality. It pains my heart to see people talking about anything and everything. And the fact is that they are so confident when commenting that they don’t even feel an ounce of shame or feel guilty for speaking such insulting and terrible words for a girl who already went through so much and now she even has to face such heart-throbbing gossips and debates.
Men being completely clueless about periods- It should have been a taboo and I really can’t even imagine, how wonderful it would have been to live in an environment where men are blamed and scrutinised for not being aware of periods and all that stuff related to it. I still feel that it’s a very hush kind of a topic even in our houses too. We are not allowed to openly talk about it. And I truly believe that men must know about it as much as a woman do as it not only makes the man understanding and to some extent he gets that sense of knowledge too. It would be great having men around you who are aware of periods and then women no more have to put a veil on this specific topic anymore.
Hiding sanitary pads or condoms when buying them from stores- Again, I don’t see what’s there to hide. It’s quite natural and people are aware of it. I don’t see the need of hiding or disguising or covering it. Nothing new or unnatural is bought or sold. Or nothing illegal is being taken or given. But still, such things happen without any proper reason or logic.
