Asif lives with his grandparents. He often writes letters to his parents telling them all that is happening in his school and at home. Read this letter he writes to his father.

Dear Dad,

I enjoyed being with you and mom during  the summer holidays. It also feels good to be back home with naani and naanu. School reopened yesterday. | met all my friends. A new boy has joined my class. I have already made friends with him. Actually, Miss Rita asked me to befriend him. I went and sat down in the chair next to him. The boy looked at me uncertainly. I said, “Hello, | am Asif. What is your name?” At once he smiled broadly and replied, “I am Mani. My father is in the army. He has been posted to the border, so mother and | have moved here with my grandparents.”

Dad, he too belongs to this place. He says he comes here every year during the summer holidays to be with his grandparents. But strange, | have never seen him before.

We have already become good friends. He is a warm and friendly boy. We are interested in the same games. He too likes to play football. He was the captain of the Junior Football team in his school.

As he has joined late, I have Offered to help him in his studies. he lives nearby and we have decided to Spend one hour everyday to complete the syllabus that he has missed.

Mani is a good boy. Even naani and naanu like him. We are both happy to be friends.

How is mom ? When will you visit us ? I really miss you both. I eagerly look forward to meeting you.

Asif's father wrote back to him.

Dear Asif,

Iam so glad that you have made friends with Mani. Your teacher gave you this responsibility because you are warm and friendly. She felt sure that you would make him comfortable. It is very difficult when you go to a new place. He must be lonely and unsure.

Of course, it is thoughtful of you to assist your friend in his studies, but at the same time, remember to help naani and naanu at home. Run small errands for them and give them full respect. Do your own work as far as possible. Just as you love your parents very much and want te make us happy, mom too wishes the same for her parents.

We shall visit you all during the Dussehra break. Do let us know if there's anything you need from here.
