For me, Korean drama is definitely a guilty pleasure. I was introduced to Korean dramas through one of the best series, my all time favorite, DESCENDENTS OF THE SUN. I definitely recommend this to all. i cant express in words how much i truly love this series. i started watching Koreans dramas way before Kpop, Korean dramas became the hot topic. okay, so why is it a guilty pleasure? it's a pleasure because of it's story, character, theme, texture, direction, color, culture and i'll discuss all of this in detail in just few seconds. but why is it a guilt? because there are mainly sleepless nights, lot of daydreaming, raised the standards in freaking everything. they know how to make my heart beat more faster. i have never felt more single when i watch romantic Kdrama. and mind it, it's not cheesy guys. please don't say that.
so, why did i fell in love with this? there are infinite reasons.
first and foremost is, when we watch any romcom, we always make the leads inseparable. as if, they dont have their own lives. they are always together, they face their probs together, they are just so invested in themselves where they sometime loose their individuality. but, in most of the kdramas i have seen, the life story of characters are shown and represent. they are not just stuck in being just romanticist. they are the major part of their partners lives but not the life and it makes sense. they have their own career path which they follow, their life decisions they take.
secondly, the feel. like, to elaborate the importance of a hug or even holding hand is soo freaking adorable. how this simple hugs and kisses and holding hands is way more beautiful than any sensual scenes. like, to make people understand the true meaning of love. many of you will say that they idealize the love. i do not agree, holding hands, and taking care of your partner, is not ideal but normal. how can you call this ideal. as a viewer, we know how to separate the reel and real life. the debate is not about that. they might show show in ideal way, some may say cheesy way, but the feel is unimaginable.
thirdly, being an Indian, culture and tradition are the basic parts of our life. we always value ours. so, to see the culture of Korea, to get to introduced to their culture, tradition, clothing, thinking, color, food tells so much about their enriched country. and it is always fun to know about this. (at least for me.)
and freaking one more thing, their songs. i mean they know exactly when to play the songs, when to make someone heart flutter. i am not kidding they have some secret scientific formula, they are applying which they have kept secret from the entire world.
the cinematography, oh my gosh. like take me to the jeju island please. by watching this Kdramas, i have written all those place i want to visit in Korea, what i have to do. everything. it has become a dream destination place for meโฆ i just cant wait to see the country with my own eyes.
so, yes everybody has their own opinions, they might like it or they might find it extra cheesy but if someone loves the same way these characters fell in love. Damm those moments of your life. you are extremely lucky. before judging and formulating your opinions on how and what kdramas are (to all those non kdramas watchers) just try once. start by watching maybe my fav DOTS. and to all those kdrama watchers, i know i relate to you. we are friends automatically. we ain't need any introduction. okay, now am going to binge watch some dramas. bye.
