There are different types of stories that belong to different genres such as drama, comedy, horror, thriller, suspense, mystery, adventure, fantasy and science fiction and of all these the one genre of stories that I have enjoyed reading the most all these years has been science fiction.

Since childhood, I have been attracted to science fiction stories, in fact the first science fiction story that I read was called Doctor Who and the Daleks and the first science fiction tv show that I saw was a black and white tv series called the Twilight Zone and the first science fiction movie that I watched was the Terminator.

I have always been fascinated by science fiction because I like to observe and learn about the technology used in science fiction stories and it is fun to learn some of these fiction stories have become factual.

There are many interesting facts that were once science fiction and some of them are now a part of our daily lives: 

A) The famous writer H.G. Wells wrote many books where he described what he thought what the future would like more than hundred years ago, some of the themes that he covered were aliens, time travel, being invisible and travelling to the moon, it is true that not all these ideas have become reality but we never know when this may become a reality in the years to come.

B) Jules Verne is known as the father of science fiction and is famous for making many predictions in his books such as underwater ship or a submarine, the presence gigantic life forms underwater like the giant squid and going to the center of the earth.

C) Another famous example of science fiction in the movies is the Terminator which was released nearly 40 years ago, although it is not the first movie to deal with artificial intelligence, it was way ahead of its time as the story was about artificial intelligence had become so smart that they had become a threat to mankind.

Michael Crichton is a famous science fiction writer who wrote books that covered ideas such as reality tv shows and cloning, these books were made into movies, one of them was the Andromeda Strain and the other being the popular Jurassic Park which captured the imagination of people and just a few months back there was a movie released called Jurassic world which gives us an idea of our obsession with dinosaurs.

Another famous book that was made into a movie more than 50 years back is 2001: A Space Odyssey which deals with the theme of artificial intelligence and how it becomes an integral part of our daily lives.

One of the most unusual examples of science fiction is Planet of the Apes where there is a role reversal, we find that apes are in control of Earth and humans are primitive, what makes this different is that most science fiction stories focus on machines, this is one of the few stories that deal with an intelligent animal species.

Science fiction is something that continues to capture our imagination and as long as we are dependent upon science and technology, science fiction will continue to get our attention in the years to come.
