We all know honeybee plays an important role in human life.

Scientific name - Apis mellifera 

In a hive, there are three types of bee live

• Queen
• Drone / Male
• Worker bee

Queen work are only producing eggs while drone work is just mating with the queen.

all hive are handle by the worker bee.

Queen produce two types of eggs 

• Fertile egg - fertile eggs become female
• Unfertile egg - unfertile eggs become male

Fact - All worker bee in a hive are female

So now you think if all worker bee are female then how to select the queen?

In hive two types of food provided

1. Royal jelly - according to its name this is spacial type food which makes a female bee fertile and that bee become queen in future
2. Simple food - simple food-eating females become worker bees and they are not fertile. They use for honey collection & other hive activities

Fact - If the queen dies then worker bee select new young larva and feeding ‘’royal jelly'' so the larva develops into a fertile queen

Fact - when a queen takes her first flight all drones try to catch her because the height of a queen flight is very high so only one drone can catch her.

In worker bee, there also have a different function so according to their work they are generally three type

• Protection bee - they protect the hive according to their name
• Nurse bee -  according to their name they take care of queen, eggs & larva
• Scout bee - known as dancing bee they tell about the distance of food

Fact - bee dancing is used for communication there dance are two types

• Waging dance - when food distance more than 75mm
• Round dance - when food distance less than 75mm

Fact - when in winter hive goes to survival mode, the drones are kicked out because they have no use.
