Our mother is our life’s most valuable asset. You might not know this but different countries have their ways of celebrating this angel. In this blog, I will tell you how Mother's day is celebrated in different countries across the globe.

Warning- The purpose of this blog isn’t to hurt someone’s sentiments. It just speaks out the truth!

  1. Egypt- Let’s start with Egypt. In Arab countries such as Dubai, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt, Mother’s Day is celebrated on 21st March. The holiday celebrates the goddess Isis, who represents motherhood. There’s a rumor that early Mother’s Day was initiated from Egyptian Traditions.

How they Celebrated- Ancient Egyptians celebrated this day by sailing boats filled with beautiful flowers such as lily around the city.

2. France & America- I’ve included both countries together as they celebrate the day, the same way. While France celebrates Mother’s Day in the last week of May, America celebrates it in the fourth Sunday of Lent, where lent means a week to rejoice.

How they Celebrate- People here celebrate the day by gifting their mother’s gifts, flowers, and preparing a special meal. Though, we can’t confirm how many follow this!

3. The Dominican Republic- Here, Mother’s Day is also celebrated on the last week of May, just like France.

How they Celebrate- Here, the people dedicated to their mothers, a special song called, “the Hymn of the Mothers”. You can listen to it on Youtube. Amongst this list, I think this one’s the most beautiful way of celebrating the day.

4. Armenia- In Armenia, the month of March and April are all about celebrating women. The country officially celebrates All Women's Day on 8th March along with Motherhood and Beauty Day each year on April 7.

How they celebrate- Armenian People celebrate the day by following the tradition to give their mothers a twig with fresh budding sprouts to symbolize fertility. They also gift them flowers, cards, and other gifts. That’s what we call actual celebrations!

5. Paraguay- You might be surprised to know that Paraguay celebrates Mother’s Day and its Independence Day on the same dates, 15th May. This is done to honor Maria De Lara, the first woman to celebrate the country’s Independence.

How they Celebrate- They celebrate the day grandly by bestowing an honor to women by celebrating this day as their day of Independence.

6. North Korea- Hey, there’s the famous nation that you must be waiting for! Right? North Korea celebrates the day on November 15 with a speech titled, “The Duty of Mothers in the Education of Children” written by the founder of North Korea Kim II Sung.

How they Celebrate- Their day is celebrated the same way as all other days. Nothing grand happens except Kim Jong Un giving a dictator speech.

7. India- Well, there comes our country, India. In India, Mother’s Day is celebrated on 9th May, that is today! Mothers have been bestowed great respect by people in ancient India. Whether it is Lord Krishna or Shravan Kumar, the bars have been raised high of mother's reputation by such people. So, let’s get to the part of how the day is celebrated in our country.

How we Celebrate- We Indians celebrate this beautiful day by writing down poems, posting pictures with our mothers on social media, and making big false promises of helping them out throughout the year. Instead of gifts, we continue to load her with work, insults, and a taken-for-granted attitude. 70% of people do that (add me to this list). If you treat your mother well, then Kudos to you. You are unique!

Well, I hope I am clear about what I want you all to know! There’ll come a day when all your mother’s efforts, talks, and love will come bouncing back to your mind and hit you like a gut punch. There’s a reason why we are so down on the list of Happiest Countries in the World. We don’t even respect our mothers!

Realize your mother’s value before it’s too late. Celebrate mother’s day, not just today, every day!
