"My First Speech At School"

Hello candlemonk family. How are you all? I am Vibhu & in this post I am going to share one of my lifes' event with all of you. Why am I sharing this? Because it is one of those special moments in my life that pushed me to do more, that pushed me to work harder & better. So I feel some of you might connect with it and some might learn from it.

This is going to be a Story Telling kind of blog. So, If you love reading or listening stories then you are most welcome. Also purposely I won't be using any picture or photograph here so that you can imagine yourself being at my place and enjoy the story.

So I remember partially that it was my class 4th or maybe 5th when I discovered a unique talent in myself that is of writing and giving speeches. Yes, before that I wasn't aware about that at all. Let me tell you how did it all happened. It was the on going preparations for the Independence Day celebration, as you all must have participated in your schools in such national festive celebrations. But I didn't find them of my choice like most of the other students. So usually I try to escape from such participations, you can call me kind of ‘introvert’ at that time. I still don't like those things very much, and still a little reserved guy but that was the day when my dillusion was going to break.

Actually there was a boy who was brilliant in studies & sports as well, his name was Ankur, my classmate. He was given the chance of presenting the speech in English on Independence Day. Everything was set, he was prepared & eagerly waiting for the day. But just a day before the actual day he fell seriously ill. It was the need of the hour so he was admitted in hospital and the news that he won't be available on Independence Day was sent to our English teacher (Who was also handling English Drama & Speech Department). It was a worrying time for him as he couldn't do anything in that. He also knew that I was good at English but he was also aware about my reserved nature that I won't participate in any cultural programme.

But he approached me finally in the evening time and said : “Vibhu you have to take part in speech tomorrow, I asked many students but they refused saying it's impossible to prepare a full 10 minutes speech in English overnight”, It's my request that you have to go to Ankurs' house, take the speech from him and learn, prepare well overnight. You can understand the urgency. Firstly I hesitated in my mind but not openly showed it to my teacher. I quickly said ‘Yes’, I will do it sir. I don't know why I did that, How I said yes but it all happened. My teacher felt relaxed after that.

In the evening I went to Ankurs' house to take the written speech but to my bad there was no one at his house. Everyone was at the hospital. And I didn't knew where was the hospital in which he was admitted. Anyway, I waited for so long like 4 hours but no one came. It was 8'O clock in the evening, time was passing like thin air. I started worrying. Also I didn't have any other contacts for him. Being tired I finally reached my home by 08:30 pm & quickly decided to write my own speech, Yes that's true. I knew I didn't have any experience of writing, I knew I won't be able to write like what my teacher gave to Ankur. But I didn't have any choice. I wrote anyhow & learnt it completely by revising again and again. I didn't slept whole night. By morning 6 am I was well prepared with my speech.

I went to school, My turn came and I presented myself on the stage for the first time. I made myself confident and everything went soo well. Although my teacher became little worried that it wasn't his speech but was written by me. But when everyone clapped for me and I won the prize for best speech then my teacher felt so happy also he patted my back when he came to know that the speech was written by me and I tried my best with everything.

It is truly said that : “Sailing boat in downstream has nothing to teach you, You have to enter the upstream if you want to learn something”.

That's all for this post friends. I hope you must have enjoyed this story of my life & some of you must also have felt connected and relatable with it.

Anyway, Now I will see you in the next blog-post with another new topic. Do like this post & tell me your views in the comments down below. Should I bring more these kind of posts in future related to me or story telling? Comment below

Till then have a great time. And take care of yourself and your family.

Thank You
