THE SANGAMA :-

• THE kingdom was founded in AD 1336 in response to the Tughlaq authority in south India .
• Vijayanagar kingdom  and the city was founded by Harihara and Bukka . (TWO OF THE FIVE SONS OF SANGAMA ).
• Harihara and Bukka were originally the feudatories of the Kakatiya  . They were brought to the center by Muhammad-bin Tughlaq converted to Islam and  were sent to south to control the rebellion but motivated by a bhakti saint vidyarayana the established the Vijayanagar kingdom in ad 1336.

HARIHARA AND BUKKA :-

• Harihara had a conflict with Bahmani kingdom for the control of over three areas : Raichur doab , Krishna Godavari delta , and Marathwada.
• Bukka renamed the kingdom from Vidyanagar to Vijayanagar , the royal ambassadors from Malabar and Ceylon adorned the court and he also restored the peace between Vaishnavas and Jain's .

PAMPA DEVI AND KRISHN DEV RAYA :-

  The ruins of Hampi were brought to light in 1800 by an engineer and antiquarian named colonel Colin Makenzie. An employee of east India company . He prepared the first survey map of the site much of the initial information he received was the memories of the priest of the Virupaksha temple , Vithal  temple  and the shrine of pampa Devi  .

VIJAYANAGARA ARCHITECTURE :-

• Important temple are Vithal Swami and Hazara mahal at Hampi , Varadarajan and Ek Ambarnath  temples and Parvati temples. The stories of Mahabharat were inscribed on the walls of the temples . vibrant combination of chalukya , Pandavas and chola  style .  

Vijayanagara SOCIETY :-

Only empire in  India which employed women in the services . women even went to battle field .

VIJAYANAGARA TRADE :-

Accounts of Nunez and  paes indicate a dependence on foreign trade for maintenance  of the two most important bases of the Vijayanagar empire the cavalry and its fire arms .

VIJAYANAGARA COINS :-

They used gold coins called varaha or pagodas (varaha because the most common symbol was varaha - the boar an incarnation Vishnu), these help us know that they were the worshippers of lord Vishnu.

These all we can understand when we combine information from other sources like literature , inscriptions , and popular traditions .
