Hey everyone hope you are doing well ,actually I am going through a lot of tests and oral exams so I hardly get any time to write blogs

So I am very sorry for that

Today our topic for our blog is the Mesopotamian civilization

So the meaning of mesopotamia is ‘THE REGION BETWEEN TWO RIVERS’ the land between tigris and Euphrates river was once called mesopotamia (now Iraq)

The sumerians were the first one who were succeeded by the Babylonians, Assyrians and chaldeans the southern most part of mesopotamia was called summer . The region situated a few kilometres away from sumer were called Babylonia and akkad.

 Chief features of the civilization

It was divided into three classes

💖 The king and the royal family    ministers and the priests formed the upper class

💖 Farmers ,traders, artisans formed the middle class

💖 The lower class consisted of slaves.

Occupation

The supply of water were derived from Euphrates and Tigris rivers . They built a highly developed system of irrigation for regular water supply throughout the year and they used ox - drawn plough.

They domesticated animals like cow ,goat, sheep, donkey , oxen , pigs etc

Brick making was a important occupation of the Mesopotamian they were skilled in making pottery ,weaving and metallurgy ( metal work) . They also used to make many kinds of jewellers ,armours and statues as well🐻

They had abundant stock of food supplies so food grains were the main items to export they exported them to Egypt and the Mediterranean countries in return they imported stone timber and metal ores which were scarce

Religion

The Mesopotamian people built temples which were know as ZIGGURATS it means the ‘HILL OF HEVEN ’' or ‘MOUNTAIN OF GOD’ they built it in honour of there own kings these were considered home for the gods to live in 😅

Writting system

Their records were written on clay tablets they wrote it with a pen like thing called stylus or three corned stick they are known as cuneiform.

 Script

After writting the records were baked in the oven or in the sun . These script had more than 350 symbols it was written from right to left. The tablets found in the Babylonian schools had lessons on them.

Inventions

The Mesopotamian s made sundials and devised a system of counting based on 60. Our division of an hour into 60 parts came from them.

The king Hammurabi

There was this great king Hammurabi he was famous for his code of laws . He got these laws carved on both sides of a 8 feet high stone shaft and placed in the Marduk temple . It contained 282 paragraph . It shows that women could own property and conduct businesses of their own . It protected the poor, women, children, and slaves agains the hands of the rich and powerful . punishment for offences were severe

Decline

The Euphrates and the tigris wete the only lifeline of the people

When this rivers changed there course the civilization declined

Wind and storm eroded the monuments and other structure were burried in sand.

This was all for today in my next blog I will be telling about the Egyptian civilization

So wait for my next blog

Bye , bye💖❤️
