Typical Day In The Life Of A Doctor In India

So I thought I would share one of the craziest day I had when I an intern at an hospital.

My day started at 5.45 am in the morning. I had to be in the hospital by 6 am. Once I reached  I checkup on the patients in the emergency region, the wards and ICU.

I go to my patients , ask them about their health , enquire about any new problems and assure of them of better day. I check their basic vitals like blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and make an entry to the hospital records. I also have to add any new test that had been done and their result. This was all over by 9am

Our lead doctor now cam to the emergency from where we actually started our rounds. Wherein we present the cases to our HOD and the lead doctor would then advice on further for test, medication, surgery or discharge and counselling to the relatives of the patient. This would then be over by 1pm. And I had my delicious meal of the day. I usually had masala dosa.

After lunch we had 3 surgeries waiting up. We change in into our scrubs and shift the patient from pre-op to operating room. Make sure the patient is comfortable, all the medications are there , patient chart is there. The main surgery was performed by the lead doctor but some lucky interns would get the chance to scrub in and assist in the surgery and today was one the lucky days. We had a surgery which went up till 6 pm and soon after we had to shift the patient to post surgery icu.

After that we had 2 critical patients whom had to be shift to ct room for further investigation.

It was 8 pm and now we were preparing for our evening rounds , doin the same exact thing we did in morning. By 9.30 pm it was all over and my legs breaking, my stomach churning. Almost felt like sleeping in the hospital.

I returned to my pg, my roomate was waiting for me. We had or dinner together. Some roti , daal and panner sabzi. Then we ordered  some dessert 🎂 from the only shop that was open such late at night.

Then I called my parents , shared my day with them, and fell asleep almost in a sec after touching my bed mattress.

Only to wakeup and repeat the same day all over again but with tini tiny changes which when appreciated makes you wonder about the profoundness of the this noble profession.
