India Needs Uniform Civil Code??

Big discussion going on around the corner as to does India require a uniform civil code or not, let's just understand it and then come to a conclusion.

What does a code mean? A systematic collection of laws and statutes. Just like for criminals law we have Indian penal code and for election we have model code of conduct. Likewise for civil cases like marriage, seperation/ divorce , adoption and inheritance. We have different religions in our country Hindu, muslim, Christian and others, all have different civil code and they want to bring uniformity to it. Other countries like France, Germany , U.K also follow the same uniform civil code.

This started during the Mughal ruling by Aurangzeb, there was no proper civil code and was followed according to the region they lived and the criminal code was followed according to shariyat law.

After the Britishers came to India they changed the law, the civil code for Hindus was according to Hindu law, Shariyat law for muslims and English for others. And criminal was replaced by English laws.

Following years Indian penal code and others was introduced. And a lot of changes were brought in civil hindu codes like married women property right act , Hindu inheritance act, Hindu succession act, Hindu minority and guardianship act.

These changes were not brought in for Muslims by the Britishers mainly for reason that they probably wanted to create a divide, Hindu were going through reforms and Muslims didn't wanted the change

Babasaheb B.R Ambedkar did wanted a uniform civil code after independence during shaping up of the constitution but was opposed by Nehru and other parties. Babasaheb did put in a lot of effort and before resigning. An article 44 of the Directive principle of the constitution did add that they shall endure the uniform civil code .

Chief justice of India S.A Bobde lauded the civil code of Goa, Delhi High court also backed the Uniform civil code.

But how to implement the UCC.

One was could that they keep the different civil code but change the laws which discriminate with h gender and caste or keep a uniform law with some exceptions for each religion.

I believe that the Uniform civil code is definitely a correct way to proceed further in our country . It's the only way to keep the such a diverse country together.

But the question is how is government goin to bring in such laws, how will they implement it.
