Like any typical group of friends, they exchanged private information and discussed what was going on in their lives. The crocodile informed the monkey of his wife's residence across the river. As a result, the generous monkey gave the crocodile more fruits to take as a gift for his wife.

The friendship between the crocodile and the monkey flourished and they shared a meal of berries. Frequently, the monkey would provide the crocodiles with additional berries to bring back to his spouse. The proximity of the two friends caused the wife of the crocodile to start feeling envious. She desired to terminate their companionship. She considered that if the monkey could live solely on the delicious berries, its meat must possess an inherent sweetness. Therefore, she requested the crocodile to extend an invitation to his companion for a meal. The reason why the crocodile declined was that he had a feeling that his spouse was planning something malicious. Nevertheless, she was resolute in her desire to consume the flesh of the monkey.

Faking an illness, she informed the crocodile that her physician believes the sole remedy for her survival is a heart from a monkey. After hearing this, the crocodile hurried to the monkey's tree and deceived him by saying that his spouse had cooked a tasty meal for them. The monkey gladly accepted and ascended onto the crocodile's rear. In the middle of their journey, the monkey realized that the crocodile had started to submerge. The monkey, feeling scared, inquired of his companion why they were behaving in such a manner. The crocodile told the truth about the situation.

The intelligent monkey informed him that the situation was undesirable as he had forgotten to bring his heart along. He would be more than willing to offer his heart to nurse the crocodile's wife to wellness if the crocodile returned him. The foolish crocodile believed the monkey's deceitful story and hurried to return to the tree with the intention of seizing the monkey's heart. Immediately upon arrival, the monkey quickly climbed to safety and instructed the crocodile to inform his spouse that she had married a foolish mate.
