Sri Lanka is called as Pearl of the Indian ocean. Sri Lanka was known by many names in the past time like Thaprapen , Thambapanni. It was called as Ceylon by the British and it was officially named as Sri Lanka in 1972.

The First female prime minister

Sri Lanka was the first country in the world to have a female prime minister. Mrs.Srimavo Bandaranayke was the first female prime minister in the world. Continuously She has served as prime minister three times .

Lotus tower

It is a symbol of purity in Sri Lankan culture. The lotus tower totally built in 2012.It built by lotus pond design and situated in Colombo. It is the tallest tower in south Asia and 19th tallest tower in the world. There are shopping malls, hotels, restaurants and auditoriums in the tower.

The first Elephant orphanage

Sri Lanka is the country has setup the world’s first orphanage for elephants. In 1975 , The Pinna Wala elephant orphanage was established by The Sri Lankan department. It has 25 acres area and it is situated in Kegalle district. 

Other elephant sanctuaries- Yale national park, Gal Oyo, udawalava, Minneria park

Poya Day

Celebrates the fool moon as a holiday. It is called Poya Day. It celebrates as a public holiday in every month. That Poya days are called in different names each and every month.

Tea transport.

Presently, Sri Lanka stands as the fourth global producer of tea, with an annual economic contribution of over $1.5 billion to the country! Ceylon tea is additionally well-known for having some of the best loose leaves in the world.

Gems

The country is fulfill of natural resources. They are cinnamon, minerals, limestones, graphite, sands and gems. Sri Lankan gems are most valuable and priceless. 4 years ago A monster valuable blue sapphire was found in srilanka ( Rathnapura District) . it is about 310kg and called as “Queen of Asia”. It was the largest natural crystal. 

Best for tourism

Sri Lanka is one of the best place for tourism. There are may interesting places to visit. 8 world heritages are here. Mostly it is famous for Endless beaches, timeless ruins, welcoming people, oodles of elephants, rolling surf, cheap prices, fun trains. There aren't many locations on Earth that can provide visitors with such an amazing blend of breathtaking scenery, immaculate beaches, enthralling cultural history, and singular experiences all in one small area.
