Screentime

It's the evening of 1st of May , i have my mobile in my hand wondering what to blog about . At the same time I'm watching IPL , CSK vs MI , CSK doing well by the way . In just one room i have two screens infront of me . When i was admitted in hospital for Covid even their i had my mobile screen with me , even in the hospital their was TV screen in the room . The screens are everywhere . Ever wonder what the world will be like without these screens. How our lives would be if there were no screens around ?

Such is the importance of the issue of screentime that we have a Wikipedia article about it. Screen time is the amount of time spent using a device with a screen such as a smartphone, computer, television, or video game console

All should go through this article to know the effects of excessive screentime . It has debilitating physical and mental effects . Everyone knows that excess screentime is not good but we ourselves don't follow what we preach .

Covid and lockdowns have only assisted in enhanced screentime. How much of it is enough and who decides it? There are parents advising their children not to be on these screens all the time while they themselves are on these screens even on the dining table . How many of us eat our food while watching TV? How many of us are on Facebook and hatsapp even while watching TV ? The screentime of gamers is another issue.

There are multiple bad effects of screen time to note some -

  • Physical strain to our eyes and body.
  • Sleep deprivation.
  • Increased risk of obesity.
  • Susceptibility to chronic health conditions.
  • Loss of cognitive ability.
  • Impaired socialising skills.
  • Weakened emotional judgment.
  • Delayed learning in young children etc

The advent of social media has increased our screen time multiple times which is certainly not helping . We keep on hopping between Instagram Facebook and Whatsapp. Even when we go through useless information but in a relaxed state Dopamine is secreted in brain. Thus we feel good whenever we are accessing useless content be it on Instagram, Facebook or Whatsapp. And the brain doesn't stop there . It wants more!!!

We need to note that excessive screentime is not good and though it has its own advantages , excess of it can have serious consequences.

Ps : MI won !! MI won !!!
