They Are Precious- A Realization!

Hey, y'all!

Being a 20-year-old sophomore, I recently realized something that I didn't give a thought to anytime before.

I am an engineering student. you know- AN ENGINEERING STUDENT! Always engaged with projects, assignments, and exams. My mind is occupied with so many things, literally, all the time. Looking at fellow classmates, friends, and others doing this and that, building skills, doing internships, achieving endlessly, undoubtedly, would make one jump into the hustle as well. We all go through this at some point in our lives. We are so much motivated to succeed, we are filled with enthusiasm, we hustle like never before, we isolate, we work day and night, we do everything we can to be where WE THINK WE WANT TO BE.

You might think, but that's great! What's wrong with all this? Hard work, dedication, perseverance are all key factors for success.

Well, nothing's wrong with this. But something's not right with us!

A few days ago, I paused my ceaseless work and went for dinner. As usual, my mom said in a rather disappointing tone-" Why are you always stuffed in your room? What do you even do all day!?" My adrenaline rushed and I screamed-" The amount of work I have! you won't understand because you never had it!" She did not utter a single word and resumed her work.

After dinner, I went back to my room and switched back to my stuff. Out of the blue, I don't know what happened to me at that moment, but I lost all focus and began to ponder. Just a month back, we lost a close one. A loved one. Unexpected demise. A mother to two little kids. A heartbreaking story.

I closed all my work and went back to my mom. My mother, my father, my grandmother, and my brother. We sat together, talked, laughed, shared anecdotes and, spent a gala time. And let me tell you, those smiles, that happiness, that peace. It's priceless. You may look for it anywhere in the entire world, but you'll find it right here at your place. Your own little world. Among your family. Your loved ones. Looking at those jolly faces, I realized that all that your parents and family want is a speck of your TIME. That's it. They do not aspire for anything else. Just spend some time with them and they'll be the happiest.

We all are so much consumed by our careers, professional life, and, of course, the “life is a race" mentality that we completely forget to pay attention to what actually matters. The pandemic is teaching us so much. Life is uncertain. You never know what happens the next moment. The people we love are leaving the world in a flash. And at the end, all we are left with is regrets and memories. No doubt, work is also as important. But IT WILL GO ON. Career, work, opportunities, earning money, all this is never gonna stop. No matter where you are, in what condition you are, you'll always be able to rise again. But but but…The people who love you unconditionally, for whom you are hustling, they are all just moments. Convince me that you don't waste your time scrolling through social media in between your work, that too for hours, sometimes! You cannot. Because of course, you do that. What if, you gift this time to your people?

We don't realize this simple truth. Just your precious time for your precious people. As simple as that. And it's the most beautiful time of the day, and of your life. I promise. Prioritize them for once and feel the ‘sukoon’ yourself. In fact, you'll be able to work better. Work can always wait. It's never a do-or-die situation. NEVER. Don't take it so seriously that it makes you compromise your own people.

Lastly, I just wanna say that think about it yourself. It's my personal realization. And I'm grateful I did realize it early . Sit with them and listen to them. Do this. You'll figure out the rest.

They are precious. And you know this!
