Indigenous Aircraft Carrier (IAC) 3, gives a push to Atmanirbhar Bharat.
Dear readers, to give a fitful reply to the strategic encirclement programe causing choking on the ocean by warships and air attacks, called China's string-of-pearls threat, India has launched an indigenous defence operation by industrial houses like BEL, BHEL,HAL, MIDHANI, Keltron, Kirloskar, Tata, etc. and many other MSMEs for large number of indigenous equipments and machineries for (IAC), this also means that β rd of the total INR 20,000 crore spent on the ocean project by indigenous industry is returned to country's economy. Today; military ποΈ grade steel, 2500 km of cables, all 76% of the aircraft carrier components are all developed in India by defence PSUs, private companies, and many MSMEs. (CSL)= Cochin Shipyard Limited today stands one of the most self- reliant builders of the Indian Navy projects.
Dear readers, now I will discuss the three Indian warships, their credit ability, one by one.
This is INS Vikrant, 262 metres long, 62 metres wide flight βοΈ deck, having 2000 crew personnel, around 22,000 tonnes of steel used, it's overall cost is near to INR 20,000 cr., having displacement capacity of 45,000 tonnes, has about 2,500 km of power cable on the ship, whose distance is from Kochi to Delhi, can accommodate up to 30 fighter aircraft during war times in the hangar decks, also powered by gas turbines and lastly having a height of about 59 metres, i.e. a 15- storey building. It's motto is: β Jayema Sam Yudhi Sprdhahβ =( I completely defeat those who dare to fight with me). Finally it has state- of- the - art and indigenously developed communication π» and electronic warfare systems prepared by BHEL, installed in it's body. The vessel's service tenure was from 1961 to 1997.
This is INS Viraat, displacement capacity of 28,700 tonnes, 226.5 metres long ship served the Navy for 30 years. It's motto is: β Jalamev Yasya Balmev Tasyaβ=( One who controls the sea π is all-powerful). The vessel's service tenure was 1987 to 2017.
This is INS Vikramaditya, a modified Kiev- class aircraft carrier originally named Baku launched in the early 1980s, and served Soviet Navy from 1987 to 1991. In 1990 it was named Admiral Gorshkov and served actively for four years, and was decommissioned in 1996, then India started negotiations with Russia π·πΊ to purchase it. The 284 metres long, 45,000 tonnes displacement capacity ship was refitted and was commissioned in 2013 and is serving till date. It's motto is: β Strike Far, Strike Sureβ.
Then comes the MH60- Romeo advanced multirole choppers which gave naval aviation a major boost.
The purchase of 24 such seahawks will be completed till 2025. These all-weather compliant helicopters π can be armed with precision rockets π, torpedoes and missiles and supported with state-of-the-art avionics and sensors for modern warfare.
The features of these warships as per boatswain's eye view: i) The hangars five decks below the size of 2 football fields can accommodate up to 20 aircraft's, and 10 sea hawk choppers during war times. ii)Damage Control HQ (DCHQ) assigned for preventing fire π₯ and flood on the vessel, fitted with 3000 fire sensors and 700 flood sensors working and manned π¨βπ¦° 24*7 constantly. iii) then comes the Operations room, where Combat Management System, weapons controls, and sensors, electronic charts, radar controls, and Maritime Domain Awareness System giving the position of all ships in the ocean region, is planned and executed here. iv)then the Ship's Control Centre (SCC) wherefrom everything is controlled and commanded by Captain. v) the fifth is the launch deck having an area of 12,450 sq m where 12 fighter jets and 6 seahawks can be parked simultaneously. Vikrant is a STOBAR carrier, i.e. Short take off But Arrested Recovery. A 14- degree inclined ramp ( ski- jump) assists short take off, and 20- tonne steel cable having 3 arresting wires stay on deck for arrested recovery. The pilot should hook the belly of the aircraft to the wires, if he misses, he should opt for take off again. vi) the Flight Control Position (FLYCO) this is 10 metres above the flight deck fitted with (AWOS)= Automatic Weather βοΈ Obesrvation System having sensors monitoring π» temperature, pressure, wind speed, direction etc. vii) then the Medical Complex with 16- bed hospital, isolation ward, female ward, emergency and ICU, manned by 5 medical officers and 25 assistants working 24*7 constantly. viii) lastly the Food Galleys operating between 3am to 10pm. Fitted with automated dough, chapatti and idli makers, and large boilers for curry π making, all-electric stoves for heating and automatic dishwashers for cleaning π° purposes are available.
