Hello Bloggers! welcome back, hope you all doing good. Today I'm here with interesting topic that how lake water forms? We know that Earth contains 71% of water on it. around 97% of it is Ocean water only 3 percentage of whole water is freshwater. The region of water on the earth is specifically called as Hydrosphere. Let's see how the fresh water is distributed on the earth and in the earth. considering fresh water 68.7% of it is locked in icecaps and glaciers, 30.1% is in ground water only the remaining water is found on the surface water of lakes, rivers and swamps. That too this water is distributed unequally where some regions have excess water and some regions with lack of water, irregular rains. we can see very less quantity of water in lakes and underground. Let's know how this water in lake forms.
Before knowing how lake water forms let us know some of the terms related to this for better understanding.
WATER TABLE: It is the boundary line between the surface of soil and the ground water saturation space under the ground.
SATURATED ZONE: The region where below the water table.
UNSATURATED ZONE: the region where above the water table i.e., soil surface. It is also called zone of aeriation because it contains oxygen with water.
The water precipitation can be seen below the water table are called groundwater. The water reaches from soil surface to land surface and causes water stream to river and lake when the water table reaches to land surface. The water table level varies along with the climate and season. In winter and rainy season the water table level is near to land surface. In summer it goes down because the trees and plants absorbs the water from ground.
Ground water level is depend on water table. The borewells are dug based on the measure of water table. In older years the water table level is within 100ft even though it is a summer but recent years 1000s of feet to be dug for ground water even we cannot expect water.
Lake Baikal in Russia, the world's largest freshwater lake, and the Dead Sea in the Middle East, one of the world's saltiest lakes. Where water is able to drain away, it sinks into the ground until it reaches a layer of impermeable rock, then accumulates in the permeable rock above it; this water- saturated permeable rock is called an aquifer.
This is all about lake water formation. Thank you.
