A SHORT NOTE ON THE ODYSSEY….

Just as Ramayana and the Mahabharata are the two most important epics of india, the Iliad and the Odyssey are the great epics of ancient Greece. While the Iliad , like Mahabharata , sings of a great war in which almost all the kingdoms of that time took part, the Odyssey , compared by scholars to the Ramayana , relates the story of Odysseus.

After the war of Troy that is described in the Iliad , Odysseus desires to return home to his family and the kingdom as quickly as possible. Blessed by  Athena , the goddess of wisdom , and cursed by Poseidon, the god of the sea, Odysseus finds himself the plaything of the fates_ forced to travel to many islands and have various kinds of adventures before he is allowed to go home.

Even though the story structure of Odyssey is based on travel, the underlying theme is of hospitality. We read about various hosts, ranging from cruel monsters to kind kings. We also read about bad guests who misuse the hospitality shown them and the good ones who conduct themselves properly.

Both the Iliad and the Odyssey are popularly attributed to the poet Homer, said to be a blind bard who lived around 700  BC. Some scholars consider the epics to be the creation of not one , but many poets , as the works were not literature but part of Greek oral tradition.

So friends , this is all  about the introduction to the great odyssey story , I'm very much interested to write about each and every journey of the the Odyssey, even if you are the one who intersted to read this story pls just comment me , because your comments motivates me write more about the Odyssey story.
