The basic storyline of Varun Tej's “Ghani” is as usual in spite of its loss of novelty but does it really worth watching !!! Let us explore.
Generally, in all sports based films the hero's purpose is winning a championship title. But the cause of the hero on this film is different. Excelling into the sports career is not the priority, however an act of private revenge becomes Varun Tej's priority this is where the film suffers to meet the audience expectations.
A Quite direct line of the story. Such a flimsy thread wishes a miles gripping screenplay. New director Mr. Kiran Korrapati doesn't get it proper with inside the writing department.
The first half of the film is dedicated to Ghani's mystery boxing training, the bonding among mom and son and hero's love track which is not much disappointing but it tests audience patience while watching the film. Except for withholding the back story of hero's father, the film runs as per audience prediction till the end. This is the disadvantage of the film in spite of hero going through a uncomplicated purpose for revenge.
Although the second half is higher than the first half since the truth behind the mystery death of hero's father is exposed which feels a bit interesting due to upendra' s performance but it lacks a good preserve and the film unexpectedly shifts equipment and climax sequel attempts to head in Kiccha Sudeep's “Pailwaan” format. Even in Pailwaan Sunil Shetty will be Sudeep's trainer in Wrestling, In Ghani Sunil Shetty is Varun's trainer in boxing that's all the difference it makes.
Then Speaking about Jagapathi babu, he is the one controlling the bet mafia who is also the chief head of boxing game corporation so called the Indian Boxing League. he has played a character which is not much comprising when compared to the character he played in NTR's Nannaku Prematho.
And then the mom-son sentiment drama isn't that much satisfying as Nadiya's role turns out to be silent for most of the time with inside. Sports based films require inspiring moments while the hero performs the match, however in this film we see repeated punches that don't provide an emotional touch.
The writing crew and director appears to be more concentrated on building hero's performance as a one man show by making him physically fit and they forget to concentrate on other characters due to which Ghani lacks as a sports film.
We had a lot of expectations on Ghani, Especially after watching 2 best boxing films like irudhi suttru & sarpatta parambarai. But Ghani did live up to its standards and a complete disappointment for both regular audience and sports fan audience.
My rating for this film would be 2.2/5
