Legend of the blue sea is a south Korean television series starring Jun Ji-Hyung and Lee Min Ho. This series telecasted during 2016-2017.This Drama tells the story of unofficial historical tales that is in the Joseon Era about a fisherman who captures a mermaid and let it go. And also a love story between a con- artist and a mermaid who travels along the ocean to the land.

This series focuses on rebirth, fate and unrequited love, their tales is showed with the parallel story of the Joseon-era incarnation, the mermaid named se Hwa and the town head named  Kim Dam-Ryeong.

Firstly let me tell the Joseon Era story to make it interesting. 

JOSEON ERA

 During the Joseon era, a mermaid save a boy from drowning in the sea, son of a nobleman, Kim Dam-Ryeong. 

Due to this following incident they became really good friends and Kim Dam named the mermaid as Se Hwa after his decreased sister meaning “a bright, shinning child ”. Being from two different worlds they fell in love with each other but Kim Dam has to take up the arranged marriage. On the night of his marriage Kim Dam ran from his house and went in search of the mermaid. While searching he drowned in the sea and the mermaid helped him out. Se Hwa wanted to move to land to live with Kim Dam but since she is a not an adult she couldn't turn her tail into a pair of legs so she decided to erase Kim Dam memory about her so that he won't come looking for her.

After few years, Kim Dam-Ryeong became the head of the town. Due to a heavy storm Se Hwa was pushed to the cave where the town folks trapped her and brought to Kim Dam. While he doesn't remember her but took pity for her and let her free. This made the town inn head, Yang Seung-Gil angry because he had plans to exploit her for his own monetary desires.

So he Decided to defeat Kim Dam-Ryeong By spreading rumours that Kim Dam was unfit to rule the village as he is bewitched by the mermaid. The village people began to panic. Yang Seung captured the mermaid and tortured her to extract her tears that turns into a precious pearls. But Kim Dam fought against them and let her free.

Kim Dam has dreamt a dream of himself in future and he was afraid that the ill fate repeats itself. So he decides to write a time capsule saying that" Everything Is Repeating Itself" for his future reference. During this Yang Seung went to capture the mermaid again knowing this Kim Dam rushed to the ocean But Yang and his gang began to attack the mermaid.

Kim Dam Jumped into the sea to save her But one of the Harpoon impales him from behind and Kim Dam dies in the arms of Se Hwa. As Se Hwa loved him so much she thrusts the harpoon deeper  thrugh his body and stabs herself and dies. Her Jadeite bracelet slides off from her hand and gets lost in the ocean.

MODERN DAYS:

 In Modern days, Heo Joon-Jae ran out of his after his parents divorce. His father married another women and his mother worked as a housekeep as she ran out of money. During his search for his mother, Heo Joon-Jae became a con-artist, using his good looks and hypnotism conducting scam with the mentors, Jo Nam-doo and a computer hacker Tae-Oh. He had a college classmate, Shi-ah.

Using his money he went to Spain for a vacation, there he found a strange women who broke through his apartment . He called the police to arrest her but he was so curious about her Jadeite bracelet so he rescued her from the police station. He brings her throughout his pursuit, until they end up corner of the cliff facing the sea. They jumped into the sea and she turned into mermaid and kissed Joon-Jae to erase his memory and promised to follow him to the Seoul.

Joon-Jae returns to Seoul and his friend noticed that he was with a girl wearing jadeite bracelet. After travelling for three months, the mermaid also arrived to Seoul. At first see didn't  find Joon-Jae and searched him all day. Then Joon-Jae friend recognized her and brought her home. Joon-Jae interrogated her about her identity and why he can't remember her but she didn't answer. Then he named her Shim Cheong. After this they steadily grow close to each other.

Linked by dreams, mysterious artifacts, including the jadeite bracelet, a vase with a image of a mermaid kissing a man in a modern day clothes and a portrait of Kim Dam-Ryeong with the inscription “ everything is repeating itself”, Joon-Jae starts to learn about Kim Dam and including he and Shim Cheong are the reincarnation of Kim Dam-Ryeong and Se Hwa. He can hear Shim Cheong's inner voice; he learns that she is a mermaid unless she returns to ocean she will die if he will not love her.

Kang Seo-Hee, Joon-Jae's step mother, hires Ma Dae Young to kill him and the mermaid but he couldn't. Kang Seo Hee used monkshood to Joon-Jae' father to make him eyes blind and she killed him with a high dose of monkshood as he began to suspect her. Shim Cheong was captured by Ma Dae Young and to escape she erased his childhood memory and about her while erasing she also came to know that the ill fate is repeating.

Joon Jae came to know that Ma Dae Young is visiting professor Jin Kyung-Won to get his memory back. he recovered his memory and knows that he is the incarnation of Yung Seung-Gil. Joon-Jae called the police to arrest him and Ma Dae got arrested. Chi-Hyun grabs the gun and shot at Joon-Jae but shim Cheong  takes the shot to save him. Chi-Hyun committed suicide under the custody.

Shim Cheong, being a mermaid, survived the injury making the hospital staff astonishing. She is Discharged from the hospital afterwards. However she didn't recovery fully so Joon-Jae decided to let her go to the ocean return back after full recovery. While returning to the ocean Shim Cheong erased his memory.

After three years, Joon-Jae becomes Prosecutor, Jo Nam-Doo became a lecturer and Tae-Oh became a white hacker. Shim Cheong fully recovers and returned to Seoul to see Joon-Jae. Despite his lost memory he was able to recognize her and it revealed that he has recorded his life with Shim Cheong, in case he lost his memory. They move to a house near the sea and Shim Cheong becomes pregnant. Joon-Jae ultimately evades the ill fate that had been in store for them with Kim Dam-Ryeong's visions.
