A much-awaited film directed by Parasuram Petla, Family Star features Mrunal Thakur and Vijay Deverakonda. The movie plays out as a slow-moving family drama supported by powerful performances, but it suffers from dreadful narrative development and scripting.
The film starts off strong, introducing the audience to the characters and doing a good job of establishing them. The main idea, that each generation has a star who will change the path of the family, is a compelling one. But the story stumbles in execution, especially after the intermission, with the narrative collapsing and losing its emotional resonance.
While Mrunal Thakur captivates in both tragic and lighthearted situations, and shares noticeable chemistry with Vijay Deverakonda in the film's first half, Vijay Deverakonda shines as the accessible yet complex Govardhan. Despite getting some excellent performances, Parasuram finds it difficult to combine them into a gripping, emotionally charged film. The middle-class family is shown in overly dramatic and shallow scenes. Family Star fails to live up to the hype and lacks the allure and enchantment of Parasuram's previous hit film, "Geetha Govindam."Though some of that charm is attempted to be recreated in the film, especially in a few instances, it feels forced and unreal. Mrunal Thakur and Vijay Deverakonda performances are insufficient to save Family Star, which turns out to be a sad attempt.Family Star's narrative is so thin that it's easily discernible, much like Govardhan's early-film CGI dosa that he cooks for his nieces and nephews. The main problem with Family Star is that it lacks emotional. No family story has to be a fantastic one.Vijay Devarakonda looked good and apt on screen. He looked like a perfect family man in the role of Govardhan. Mrunal Thakur is beautiful but her role was not impactful. She looked elder than Vijay in some of the scenes. Her role has no importance in the second half of Family Star. Jagapathi Babu essayed the role of a rich dad and he was given a routine role which he essayed in the past. Vennela Kishore has nothing great to do. Rohini too had not much importance. All the others had limited roles. With the producer of Shatamanam Bhavathi assuring The Family Star is a perfect family movie from the same production house, the expectations went a little higher than usual. But this Family Star is nowhere close to it and is disappointing. It is the story of a financially disciplined .
