We are living in the 21st century and have witnessed multifaceted development in each and every field we know so far. But even after being so prosperous and developed, mental health is still stereotyped as social stigma around the world.
Understanding of mental health is different for each and every single person out there. The way a mental illness affects one person's day to day life might be different from the way it affects the other person who is suffering from the same illness. The changes in the person may be subtle for the observer but only the sufferer knows the extent of discomfort and lack of stability in his/her life.
Mental health is as important as our physical health. Even sometimes, mental health demands more care and attention because good mental health is the foundation of happiness and stability of our lives. People need to know the significance of mental health in order to run their lives swiftly.
Mental illness often become a blot in someone's life. People with mental illness are treated differently. In worst cases, they are considered insane, mentally unstable or mentally retarded. Such incidents create stressful environment for them and instead of getting help from the surroundings, their condition become even worse. In some cases, people with mental illness are abandoned by their families and friends. They become homeless and often indulge in criminal activities.
If mental illness is not treated properly on time, it may lead to deterioration of mental peace of the sufferer and may hinder normal day to day activities. So, as to prevent escalation of the suffering due to lack of concern on mental health, proper care and treatment should be taken.
Mental health is one of the most stigmatized health issues in our society. We just need to end the stigma around mental health. It has been stigmatized so much that therapy has also been treated as a taboo. The best way to break the huge stigmatized system down is normalise having conversation about mental health as well as normalise consideration of its treatment i.e., THERAPY.
If you are going through a tough time, talk about it with your family and friends and ask for help if needed. If you don't get enough help from them let it be. Seek a good therapist and take therapy. Along with that take small initiatives like meditation, keeping journals, reading self help books, listen to happy music and perform all those activities that makes you happy because at the end, your happiness matters the most.
Don't be shy to ask for help because there is no shame in seeking help!
