Vilangu - Tamil Web Series Review

Hi All, Thanks for the support for my previous blogs. I am back with another review. This time it is a web series and it is available on Zee 5 OTT platform.  The title is Vilangu - which has two meaning one is animal and other one is hand cuff. This series has a total of 7 episodes and average running time of 30 to 40 minutes for each series. This web series is directed by Prasanth Pandiyaraj and actor vemal plays the lead role. Definitely a long time comeback movie for actor Vemal.

Vemal has not had any cinematic background who had played small uncredited role in Ghilli. He came strongly in movies but in the middle he chose wrong scripts and lost his fame. In this movie, The police character role was apt and he had done justice to the role. Ineya is the heroine but it is very subtle role. The supporting characters like Munishkant and Bala Saravanan had done a great job. I have not seen web series that has a village background. Mostly web series will be in city or town. But, this web series was village and very much interesting.

The movie starts with a murder and when they try to find the out the culprit and reason for the murder, it keeps on directing to different murders and the unimaginable character was portrayed as villain. The reason stated by Villian is shocking and we really will be thinking that these kind of crimes are happening in villages also. There are no songs which is added plus. Every episode ends with a question mark and the answer for that question will be revealed in the next episode.

I usually have a habit of viewing a maximum of one episode per day, if I am watching the web series. But, this web series prompted me to watch the next episode and so on. I was never wanting to stop it. I kept on moving to the next episode. The background score and the cinematography of the movie kept movie more interesting and helped us to sit for a engaging thriller. The selection of character was apt and all the actors mostly looked like a character and this is victory for a movie or web series.

Recently there was a post from the web series that this web series has crossed 100 Million watch minutes. This is really a big achievement for a small budget movie like this.

Thanks for reading…….

The series is set around Vembur police station, situated in the outskirts of Trichy. Vemal plays Paridhi, a Sub-Inspector in the station, who is supposed to be on leave for his wife's delivery. However, a fateful phone call informing the discovery of a half-decomposed dead body turns things topsy-turvy. A can of worms is left open and it is up to the cops in Vembur station to solve it before the outside world knows. The show begins at a leisurely pace with a 41-minute long first episode establishing the police station, its inmates, and their functioning. The conflict is introduced at the 35th minute and before we wrap our heads around it, the episode ends on a cracker of a cliffhanger. It is a compelling start for a thrilling mystery thriller. But unfortunately, the same high is not maintained throughout. The writing takes convenient routes and relies a lot on coincidences. It's as if all crucial information is laid around and it's just a matter of time before the sleuth lays an eye on it. While watching a crime-thriller, it is the investigator's body language and how he cracks each puzzle that instils a sense of excitement in the viewer. But in Vilangu, Vemal carries a restrained approach and does more of a mechanical job. Contrary to the usual cop roles in Tamil cinema, his Paridhi is an ordinary policeman devoid of any special skills. He's neither brainy nor brawny. What works for him is his humane approach. More on that later
