Hey everyone! Hope you all are doing amazing in life. Reading is an incredible habit and in this regards I bring upon yet another book review.
Book - THE NINE CHAMBERED HEART.
Author - Janice Pariat.
Genre - Fiction, romantic.
In this exquisite, sublime, poetry-in-prose kind of a novel, Janice makes you delve into the life of one woman from the perspective of nine men who've loved her. The book, all through its nine chapters, is a deeply stirring account of love and the many ways in which it makes and breaks people.
What I found most intriguing about it was this revelatory realisation - how one person, with all their traumas and fault lines and even moments of euphoric ecstasy, can leave completely different imprints on the hearts and minds of people who come to know them closely. And the fact that this truth doesn't really limit itself to just romantic partnerships alone.
Though Janice doesn't attribute any names to the people or places in the book, she still makes it extremely intimate and insightful, all while smashing the utter need to provide details that are deemed inarguably crucial to a story. And for its uncompromising brevity, her writing has grown to become so unforgettable for me.
Another reason why I think I loved this book was Janice's commitment to slip in implications you'd easily miss if you don't take notice - for instance, the city with a river, which in my head was glorious London, and the city without one, the heart of this country, Dilli. I could be totally wrong here but I still want to stick with my conveniences because that's how I imagined the book playing out lol, peak Ashish behaviour.
Usually I'm not the biggest fan of strictly romantic novels, but something about this one truly won me over. The book filled me with a sense of abandon and longing and the dichotomous misery & delight in having to depart from a place or a person to meet another, all which I liked very very much. Also glad that I devoured this book in different parks and I highly suggest you do the same.
You can find this book on Kindle, Amazon, Flipkart and other online book sources. I would say “just go for it”. It's amazing, superb and worth reading.
If anyone of you have read it already then do let me know how you find it in the comments. Have a nice day!
