On August 2, 1981, a cargo ship called primrose which was travelling between Bangladesh and Australia crashed on a coral reef in the Bay of Bengal. The ship was in the Andaman archipelago(group of islands)near an island called North Sentinal Island. The ship's crew were not able to use their lifeboats as the sea were too rough. After waiting for a few days, a young sailor noticed few people approaching their ship but those people were not there to help the ship crew's instead they carried weapons and they were called “The Sentinelese”.The captain of the ship sent out an emergency message
Wild men estimate more than 50 carrying various homemade weapons are making two or three wooden boats all crew members lives not guranteed
A week later Indian navy dispatched a helicopter to rescue the crew The ship can still be found near the Nort Sentinel island. This incident was an accidental intersection with the Sentinelese. Much more interaction between the Sentinelese and modern human has taken place. some interaction was peaceful and some not so peaceful
The Sentinelese is one of the last tribes in the world which has had very less interaction with modern human civilization but from all the interaction it is confirmed that they did not want to interact with us
Do many people think that we should increase our interactions with the Sentinels what could be the result of such increased interaction? For this, we should look at Jawara tribes just like sentinels the Jarawa tribe was also completely isolated for many years. During the 1970s. the Indian government tried very hard to establish contact with them and then they respond very aggressively but many missions turned out to be successful
During the 1970s the Indian government constructed the Andaman Trunk Road which passes through the areas of the Jarawa tribe. As a result, the contact between people, our government and Jarawa tribe increases greatly. As a result, the Jarawa tribe which do not know anything about alcohol and tobacco get addicted to both
The natural question is what will the Sentinels get in return, after establishing contact with us this tension between humans and local tribe is neither a new issue nor unique to India. We know that any form of significant interaction with the Sentinelese will result in the extinction of their entire tribal population as they do not have genetic immunity against many diseases this might be the reason why we do not want to interact with them
