Development Of Education During Modern India

Hello everyone hope all are keeping well. Today I have come up with a history topic related to how education system was modified and brought into its present day since the British rule

1.Under the East indian company rule: Calcutta Madrasah was established for the study of Muslim law and other subjects.Sanskrit college was opened by Duncan at Banaras.

2.After the Charter act of 1813: They granted 1Lakh rupees every year for development of educational institution development and also Rajaram mohan roy played a pivot role and started three more sanskrit colleges at Calcutta, Delhi and Agra.

3.Orientalist Anglicist controversy: Anglicists wanted stressing on modern studies and spending more on it alone while orientalists were concerned about expansion of Indian cultures and education which helped them take up their jobs.

4.Lord Macaulay's changes: He supported Anglicists and made English as the medium of teaching in many schools and colleges. And was majorly responsible for what is termed as downward filtration theory where Indians are used as a bridge between the English tastes and opinions and the general populations.

5.Thompson's interference: James thompson encouraged education in vernacular languages and mainly in subjects such as mensuration and agriculture.

6.Wood's preposition: His documentation was considered the magna carta of English education of India. It stressed on english being the medium of communication in higher studies despite the vernacular medium used during primary schools and also upheld the female education.

7.Hunter Education Commission : This was after the crown rule where importance was given to primary and secondary education. And high school education was divided into two parts (voal and literary)

8.Indian university act: Raleigh commission was set up to improve the universities in India and to support them. Research and study were the main motto. Five lakhs was given annually to improve the universities.

9.Government resolution on education policy: Gokhale imposed that primary education was to me made compulsory and education department should be separate and they must take the further decision.

10.Sadler university commission: This was established in view of reviewing the problems faced in Calcutta university. There was tremendous improvement in intermediate stage of study. Female education was also encouraged and equality was the main goal.

11.Hartog committee: There was a lot of improvement of the quality and also the infrastructure, quality of education and also the standard of teaching of primary, secondary and higher education and also woman education.

12.Sargent plan: He proposed a lot of changes such as free education for preprimary children between 3 to 6years and also free education for children aged 6 to 11years which was divided into junior basic and senior basic.

13.Wardha scheme of education: During the all India education conference held by Congress made up basic rules for the education which was taken care by Zakir Hussain committee which stated that free education to be given to all children aged between 7 and 14 years.
