1. Underground passages : yes, to move in and around the places of this temple it has almost or more than 100 passages. these passages are mainly to travel to the fort and some important places.  Today most of the passages are sealed because most of passages are complicated and mysterious as it might lead people to an end which might not allow them to get back easily.
2. Huge cap stone : Another speculation in this temple is that how the people of that era would have placed a 80 ton stone on the top f the dome and 80 ton is such a number even today. the height of the dome is almost 216 feet. the reason behind that placement is to provide the positive energy to the devotees of the temple arising from the lord. the guess is they made slanting slope to the dome and rolling steps on which they pulled the stone to the top using elephants and people.
3. Painting in Thanjavur Big Temple : there are many paintings in walss of the temple to know more about the grand chola dynasty and about the great king Rajaraja Cholan.
4. Granite stones : One of the most strongest stones in the world is Granite stone. To the build this temple, almost 130000 tons of granite stones were needed and these stones were about 80 kms from this temple and these stones were transported with help of 5000 horses and 1000 elephants.

Cutting and Curving : We know granite stones are strongest and the cutting process would be easier today with modern equipments. the very thought of their work is itself is amazing. British people failed to break the temple's record and failed miserably. the king took almost care to protect the environment and tried to not to pollute the environment. the technique used by them to break the granites stones is amazing. 
The world wonders about the architecture of the great temple and about the chola's work and their empire. this blog alone is not enough to explain the secrets about the big temple and also it might even take several blogs to explain about the great empire and i am sure i would explain all of them with my blogs.
