Varamahalakshmi vratam is one of the festival which is celebrated greatly by most of the married womens. This vratam is celebrated mainly for wellness of their husbands, wealth, health, removing sorrows or pains in one's life, long living happy life, seeking blessings of goddess mahalakshmi.
Once goddess Parvathy requested her husband lord Shiva to guide her with vratam which relieves peoples sorrow and for their wellbeing. So by this request from goddess Parvthy, Lord Shiva himself suggested Varamahalaksmi Vratham and pooja vidaanam. It is alo said that a devotee of Lakshmi devi named Charumathi who worships Lakshmi devi everyday, was informed about this vratam, its pooja vidaanam, and its importance to her in her dreams.
As insisted, Charumathi performed the pooja and then vratam spread all over and is celebrated by all married womens.
This vratam is celebrated on 2nd friday of every Shravan Masam or the friday before the full moon.

It is thought that this vratam will provide lengthy, wealthy, healthy and happy life, relieves from sorrow in devotee's own and her own circle of relatives life.

In the phrase Varamahalakshmi, Vara means boons. Goddess Lakshmi Devi is the wife of lord Vishnu, this vratam is celebrated in the honour of goddess Lakshmi Devi.

It is important to note that after performing this vratam, devotee's will invite neighbors, relatives nd friends to visit their house, give them prasadam, give them thaamboolam(consists of beetel, beetel leaves, flowers, bangles and blouse pieces) and seek their blessings.
