Tapioca Masala is one of our favourite evening tea snacks. There is a small story behind this tapioca masala. Six months back my father bought some stems of tapioca plant when he visited us. We planted the tapioca stem in the free land in front of our house. We have added only Organic Fertilisers and water for the growth of this tapioca plant. Now we are getting Organic Tapioca and we prepare tasty tapioca masala with it as our tea snacks. I will explain how we prepare tapioca masala and its chilli chutney.

Tapioca Masala Preparation

Ingredients

  1. Tapioca : 1 Kilogram
  2. Salt : 2 table spoon
  3. Water : 1 litre
  4.  Garlic : 5
  5. Red chilies : 3
  6. Oil : 2 table spoon
  7. Mustard seeds : 1 teaspoon
  8. Turmeric powder : 1 teaspoon
  9. Curry leaves : 2 leaves
  10. Small Onion : 5 numbers

Wash tapioca to remove soil. Peel the tapioca and wash it thoroughly. Cut into rough cubes by driving the knife in and splitting it off the centre of the tapioca. Cook the tapioca with required salt in a pan with enough water to cover it by an inch, until the pieces are soft. It might take about 10-15 mins depends on tapioca verity. Drain the remaining water and discard.

Crush or coarsely grind the garlic, small onion and red chilies together in a pestle and Mortar. Take a pan and pour some coconut oil. Heat oil and add the mustard seeds. When the mustard seeds pop, add the garlic-chilli paste along with the turmeric powder and fry for 10 seconds so that the paste turns fragrant. Add the cooked tapioca,  and the curry leaves. Add more salt if needed. Smash the tapioca using a wooden spoon. Mix well and continue to stir until the spices coat the tapioca.

Spicy Chilli Chutney Method:

Ingredients

  1. Green chillies - 50 gram
  2. Salt - 1 teaspoon
  3. Onion - one
  4. Coconut oil - 2 table spoon

Peel the small onion. First place the green chillies and salt in the mixer and grind coarsely. Add onion to the mixer. Use the pulse option to grind it coarsely. It should not be ground smooth or add water. Serve it with coconut oil.

This tapioca masala and chilli chutney is very tasty. We can have it along with black tea. The minerals in tapioca can provide important health benefits. Calcium is important for keeping your bones strong and preventing the development of osteoporosis. Tapioca also contains iron, an essential mineral we need to help transport oxygen throughout the body and green chilli help us to control our cholesterol .
