Getting Things Done✔️

I have a desire to write extensively and publish new articles daily. But the thing is I keep on procrastinating. Instead, I spend hours scrolling through my Instagram feed, watch random Youtube videos, and keep liking memes on 9gag/Reddit.

See motivation is a precious commodity. It comes in small packets and in even smaller intervals of time. So relying on motivation alone to be consistent is a dangerous proposition.

So I spend some productive time on the internet and found out these things:

  1. Define the end goal: Set a goal for the action you want to be consistent in. This may take up some time to figure out, so sit ideal and take some time to think about it. In my case, I want to be good at writing so that I can start writing full-length articles on things that interest me and then figure out how to monetize them. (So posting here consistently will help me achieve that goal). For you it can be anything from studying to get good grades, learning new skills to perform well at your job, or learn to play a musical instrument.
  2. Use some Idea storage system: See our brains are really great at coming up with ideas but they are very shabby. It's time to remember those ideas. So make it a habit to write down ideas when they strike you. It can be a simple paper, a diary, a note-taking app on your phone, or sticky notes on your computer.
  3. Make action lists: This is a crucial part of getting things done. See you need to have a clear idea of what things need to be done once you actually get down on doing the work. Be as detailed as possible and mention all small tasks. If you have this list handy you will always know what task needs to be completed next and you will no longer procrastinate. For example, to publish an article I need to find a relevant topic then research about that topic, and finally, sit down and start to put the words together.
  4. Do a weekly review: Once you have mastered all the above-mentioned things do a weekly review of your work. Making lists and following them can feel like you are working in completely different dimensions. So to aline those dimensions and to keep you grounded dedicate a day to analyze how your week went. Did you fulfill all the tasks lead down for that week?

I am going to follow these steps and will definitely keep you posted on how things turn out.

If you too want to give this a try let me know in the comments. We can be accountability partners 👍
