Why is it so challenging to remember that life has its ups and downs when we are having a bad day?
If you are having trouble turning around a bad day, keep in mind that there are also "ups" in life.
It's common to have a bad reaction to being depressed. We do this because we are human. But the secret to recovery is taking charge of our thoughts before we descend even farther. How and when we regain control will influence how much 'will' and energy it takes to get back up.
I go through ups and downs a lot. It's a part of who I am and how my emotions behave. And when things are bad, I have a tendency to wallow in my own misery for a little too long rather than deciding to move on. I constantly second-guess, overthink, overanalyze, and criticize myself. This limits my potential and makes it harder for me to raise myself.
I've also come to realize that the lives I observe other people leading are not mine. Comparing my abilities to those of others is a trap. All of them experience ups and downs; I just don't notice them.
I don't enjoy my tendency to be negative, but its part of who I am. I've learnt how to deal with it and accepted the situation. Every time, the improvement feels a little quicker.
I used to often say, "A complaint is an opportunity to improve service and increase sales at the same time," when I was in charge of retail stores. That possibility exists for your individual low points as well. You have the power to create better circumstances for yourself. You can find your strengths by using your low points.
There is no manual for getting out of a negative mood when it comes to ups and downs. But I've discovered five strategies to quicken the procedure. Ways to turn these downs around and produce fresh, improved ups.
Refrain
Refrain from thinking negatively. The internal dialogue must be immediately changed to one of learning. Learn more about the world around you. What good things may be learned from them, and where are they?
Prioritize
When something is down, it means that something didn't go as expected. Take out your strategy and give it another look. What matters most in this situation? What opportunities has this turn of events created? What has to be reexamined?
Tailor
We've changed our priorities and learned something. It's time to modify our strategy to fit the current situation and our priorities. We'll recover more effectively the more adaptable we are.
Emphasis
Our ultimate goal has not altered. It may be said that the current situation is a barrier to reaching it. Be fair to yourself as you think, and try not to let a pessimistic outlook keep you from seeing the wider picture.
Implementation
Do it now. A reenergized mindset may do amazing things for your mood. You can start rising back up the moment you cross off one item on your list. Let the positive energy snowball and improve your outlook.
ACCEPT THE DOWNS
Last but not least, it's important for me to watch out for self-pressure. Do I have realistic expectations? Do I have unrealistic expectations for myself in this short amount of time?
It makes no difference if they are business-related, personal objectives, or aspirations. One thing, I advise you to do when you're feeling low. Remind yourself that it's a chance, possibly a sizable one.
Ups and downs will always be a part of our life, notwithstanding the cliché. It's not a competition, so it's best not to treat it like one for the benefit of our thinking. A little bit of reality helps a lot.
It's acceptable to accept your depressed mood when it shows up. Try to maintain awareness and stop the slide. Take a moment to regain mental control and take stock of your surroundings. Your mood will start to improve if you do this. It might go more quickly than you anticipate.
