Hey guys

Hope you all are doing well ..

Today I m here to tell you about GOBLIN . No,it's not about the kdrama goblin . That portrayal of goblin is far away from what a goblin actually is or believed to be .

So , a Goblin is a creature originally from European folklore. The word goblin is originally derived from Greek word ‘Kobalos’ which means ‘rogue’ or ‘evil spirit’.

Traditionally, the word goblin was used for any ugly fairy that is mischievous or malevolent(having a wish to do evil to others).

They often have magical abilities similar to a fairy or a demon. They are small , mischievous and greedy, especially for gold and jewellery. Well, depending on the story and country of origin ,their abilities and appearances vary. They are supposed to live in grottos(small caves) but attach themselves to households where they do some mischievous things (like moving furniture at night, banging upon pans and pots, snatching nightclothes off the bodies of sleeping person, etc).

After the publication of novel THE HOBBIT in 1937 and THE LORD OF THE RINGS trilogy, view of goblins in modern Western fantasies began to change . Now, they were seen as the distant race of humanoid creatures. They were included in many folklores and fairy tales.

Lemme share with you guys some of the stories---

1.) THE BENEVOLENT GOBLIN -

it is a folk story written between 13th and 14th centuries. In hills of England, there used to live a helpful, friendly goblin .he wore a red robe and help the knights by offering them a mysterious drinking horn that would refresh them and cool their mind. One day, a greedy and deceptive knight ran off with the horn after he asked goblin if he could drink from it. The knight was soon captured and imprisoned. Goblin's drinking horn was later given to King of England. From that day , the goblin was never heard or seen again.

2.) The goblin pony - a traditional french tale published in 1900

3.) The goblins turned to stone - traditional Dutch story published in 1918.

4.) The princess and the goblin - it is a fairy story written in 1871. The goblins in this story are small, misshapen race with a creul and mischievous behaviour. This story has influenced the classic THE HOBBIT novel and thsts how we see goblins in today's time.

THE HOBBIT - in this novel , goblins were not small fairy creatures. Ut a monstrous, evil humanoid race of beings.

If you are interested in goblins, then here are some movies where you can watch them -

1.) Harry Potter and the deathly hallows - part 2

2.) The lord of the rings : the fellowship of the ring

3.) The Hobbit : an unexpected journey (2012)

4.) The Hobbit: the battle of 5 armies (2014).

Thats it for today guys .hope you liked it. If you did , then plz do consider following me 😊.
