Today I am here to tell you about one of the weirdest novels of the world .

The novel is - BEAR.

The novel is written by a Canadian author Marian engel it was published in 1976.this book is known as the most controversial novel ever written in Canada . This novel has recieved the governer general's literacy award and it was one of the best-sellers of that time .

Lemme give u a brief summary of this book -

The story is about a woman who lives in Ontario. This area has many lakes and rivers and full of trees.whole story revolves around this place .

The novel is about Lou , a 27-year old woman. She was a librarian.she was given the task to go to the island and document and catalogue the library of Colonel Cary which was in his house.it was a big unique octagonal shaped house .

The woman have had an unfulfilling and sad life in Toronto , she've had been single all her life , she was not much happy with her life. So when she was given this opportunity, she immediately grabs it to work in the solitude of Cary's island, so that she can spend some time at peace on that peaceful island. She studies and catalogue the library. She was struggling with her life's emotional balance and her relationship with work. 

Colonel Cary had a pet bear who used to live there on thst island with him. She often used to see it near the house.she was quite interested in it . While looking in the books of library, she also read a lot of stuff about bears which was collected by colonel that made her even more interested in the bear. Apart from her sexual relationship with the estate's caretaker , she was all lonely and isolated (it was jst a physical relationship, there was no love) . Slowly, she becomes closer to the bear. The house' previous caretaker a woman named Lucy Leroy , guides her on how to get close to the bear and gain it's confidence. Her relationship with the bear starts deepening, it was sexual as well as spiritual. She starts taking him to walk , playing with him in water, she used to share her meals with him and the bear also starting coming into the House (the bear originally used to live in a shed near the house). Basically, she used to spend most of her time with him . And bear was also enjoying her company.

Then, one night, she was enjoying with the hear , dancing with him and also drinking. The bear begins to lick her all over which she was enjoying , she tried to be more intimate with him , but the bear scratch her back deeply with his claws. 

On that very night,she packs up and leave the island. 

That's how her affair with the bear ended. But a new independence and self-belief develops in her and she leaves the island with a sense of renewal. Now, she was happy.thats was she was seeking for- happiness.
