It has been raining since the morning and I have caught a cold. So what is better than Netflix and chilling on such a day?! So in bed, I finished the second season of the show βNever have I ever'.
All I can say is Devi is back again with all the craziness following her. In the last season we left off with Devi kissing both Paxton and Ben and at the beginning of this season she tries to continue the double dating but it is very difficult and eventually, the boys find out and are disgusted with her.
The drama unfolds when a new Indian girl takes admission into their class and becomes the center of attraction. Devi becomes all jealous of seeing everybody liking the new Asian girl. Moreover, Devi's mother calls Aneesa (that's the new girl's name) over for dinner. Devi becomes all worked out when she assumes that Ben has started liking Aneesa. She starts a rumor about Aneesa that doesn't end well for her.
Meanwhile, the drama keeps unfolding in Devi's life, the audience witnesses another side of Kamala (Devi's cousin) who is being dominated at her workplace and not being given due credit for her hard work. Kamala proves out to be stronger than she appears and takes charge of the things in her life (including marriage).
Maitreyi Ramakrishnan wears the character of Devi as her second self. Apart from John McEnroe's voiceover, model Gigi Hadid also lends her voice to an episode of the show. As a severely damaged youngster with dubious judgement who can be all kinds of crazy, Ramakrishnan is nonetheless impressive. In addition to carrying off gaudy sweaters, the young actress has grown into the role and lends flair and gradation to her character.
Never Have I Ever is dedicated to presenting modern-day America's social fabric- LGBTQ teenagers, Asian-Americans, the good-looking school heartthrob, the nerd, the therapist, the woke, the insiders, and the outsiders. There is a smidgeon of Japanese-American history, as well as a dash of Indian culture and oddities.
Aside from the obvious cliches and an apparent purposeful effort to check the representation boxes while still conveying the messages directed at the young target group, the show is entertaining to watch. Even at her most vulnerable moments, the audience will still root for her.
If you have watched the show do let me know your views on it. And if you haven't yet, don't think too much just dive in.
